Gingerbread 6-1-2011

I did an sfb and then a wipe and factory reset. Each time I try to download the update, it downloads fine but will not install. Any suggestions??

Thanks

Different OTA question here. Today the update was pushed to me but I keep declining the install. Is there a way to totally opt out of the update? I've read enough about different issues/bugs and I definantly don't want it, not until it's fixed anyway. Will a hard reset do it? SBF back to froyo? Something else? I thougt about calling VZW, but that will probably just aggravate me.

I'm with you. I have not had the update pushed and I am not going to go looking for it.

I have been reading this and two other forums (one is the actual motorola Droid X forum) and it looks like there are more problems than gains with this upload of GB.

Reminds me of the nightmares I had and still have with a BB tour. Nice thing with the BB is with the desktop software you can always go back and not upload the new OS.

I find it hard to believe that Motor, Google and Verizon would push a new OS system that has this many bugs in it. That is if the bugs are in it and not in the devices it is being loaded on.

I know most of those have been rooted or whatever, and even though they say they are back to original, I wonder; is there something in the background still there?

Besides, if I have problems, I can't just drive down the street to the nearest Verizon store. The closest is 120 miles away.:icon_evil:

Talked to a lvl 2 tech at VZW, he did confirm there are a few having issues with GB. Some of those issues, but not all, are due to third party apps not being updated so they will "play nice" with GB. He also said there may be a patch issued in the future. He took my info and said I would receive an email as I requested if/when one was released (we'll see about that).

He also said if you are being prompted to install the update and don't want it to keep choosing "later". It will stop asking after a while because of a counter in the software. He didn't say how many times but it will eventually stop. I've been saying later all day and am up to six hours before the next prompt. Hopefully it will stop soon.

I am using Handcent and recieved 5 of the same txt front wife. Rebooted once so far and need to fix my Facebook contacts not being updated. Other an these issues, the OTA downloaded fine over Wifi and installed in the time it took me to shower before work is morning.

I don't have that problem here. If I hit the Power or Home button, the 4 buttons light up, same as always.

arent your lights way brighter now? at night it lights up the whole room...Its a very annoying "feature" in GB.

I thought the lights were a lot brighter also and now they aren't lighting up at all, which is actually alright with me.

I've been reading these forums for quite some time and have gotten a lot of great info here so I hope someone can help me out.

I've always been running stock rom but was rooted. I restored the stock backup with bootstrap, restored all apps and data with Titanium, than unrooted. OTA tries to install but when it reboots it wants to boot into clockwork recovery. Will a wipe data/factory reset do the trick? Or am I gonna have to sbf? Thanks all!

SBF and factory reset will do the trick.

Yup, that did it. Now running GB. Much appreciated! I'm always a little leary about doing something on my own until someone gives me the "ok".

I still cannot get the update. I am bone stock and never rooted. My wife got her X at the same time I did and it showed up as soon as she went to Settings and checked for update. My buddy's X did the same thing. Any thoughts?

I see no reason at all to update other than the raw fact that it's "new".

All the 'active sync' improvements would be lost on me. My work email is pushed just fine.

I don't myfacetweet so I dont GaF about that; as far as I'm concerned that integration is bloat to me.

I have my phone rooted for the sole purpose of freezing bloat.

I am running launcher pro which still sounds like a superior launcher than GB.

Can someone please tell me what the advantage is to updating to this?

Froyo was an obvious step up. I'm failing to see the benefit here....

i think they turn off when theres enough light on the light sensor...?
- this morning as the sun was rising i noticed if i lay my dx on the desk out of the sun beam, the key lightscame on. but if i lifted it to face the sun coming through the window the lights turned off.

now we just need a dimmer.

I'm with you. I see no reason to upgrade. My phone is working just fine and I don't want to lose wireless tether. My xoom depends on it while I'm traveling. Maybe I'll consider the version for rooted users.

After installing, can we re root with z4 root? Don't want to lose my free tethering.

You lost your free tethering with the install of gingerbread, sorry. When you use any third party app to tether it auto launches the 3G hotspot app too and eventually takes you to the "if you want to use this service you need to pay for it" page. I wasn't able to find the app or even the .apk using titanium to freeze it on the leaked versions so unless someone knows how to stop the hotspot from launching with the free tether apps your screwed unless you revert back to froyo.

PdaNet 2.45 continues to work under GingerBread.

My question is does pdanet 2.45 on the phone only work with version 3.0 on the comp for pc's or does it also work with version 2.43 on the comp for macs

Wireless tether still works....You just have to pay for it.

And why would I do that? I'm already paying for data, I WILL NOT pay twice. Tell me, would you pay 2x your current cable internet bill (if you don't have cable internet service assume you do) in order to hook it up to a wireless router? Of course you wouldn't. I pay for Verizon for data, it should not matter on what device that data is consumed.
