Droid got wet, went to bootloader

Hi guys, I have a question about the Droid of an employee in my company. He got it wet by spilling some water, and the keyboard stopped responding and it would only boot to the bootloader. We tried drying it off, and I attempted to SBF it. The SBF failed, but then the Droid started up again and seems to be running fine now. I understand there may be additional damage to the phone, we should get it replaced under warranty, yada yada. My question is, what caused it to start up again? I'm curious about why it was booting to the bootloader, and what got it going again?
