Didn't like the iPhone 4s but the Droid 3 or 4... hmmm

I'm not sure if theres a limit to how many times you can do an exchange. Worst comes to worst, you throw a fit to a rep. I mean you are gonna be paying for the phone still even with an upgrade, so why cant you test drive as many as you want since you'll be stuck with it for 2 years

I agree but Verizon only allows one exchange in that 14 days now.

Well crap :/ I suppose just try and get some indepth hands on time with the store unit, or find a friend that has one. I personally love my D3, mines rooted though, which idk if you'll pursue that route b/c as you said you planned on just using it as a phone. lol

This is a hard call though, both phones are amazing spec wise and feature wise. :popped out:

My main concern is that since I text a lot and have old eyes can you adjust the font size for texting (and receiving texts) as well as the incoming phone call numbers - it would be nice to actually see the number (ones that aren't in my contact list) without having to put my reading glasses on.

For the holiday season through the beginning of January I believe the return policy has been extended, hasn't it?

Anyways, I'm personally waiting for the Nexus, but if I had to pick between the 3 or 4 I'd wait for the Droid 4. I love the Droid 3, but it honestly shouldn't have even been released IMO. But oh well, I love the Dev community it has.. and I have a feeling the Droid 4 won't get it as good in that aspect. If you don't have 4G in your area, it won't kill your battery so I wouldn't worry about that. Or I think you can toggle it off if you do have it but don't need it, considering the fact that you're considering the Droid 3 anyway.

If you want a keyboard wait for the d4. I could not in good conscience recommend the d3 to anyone looking for a phone right now. Too many other good phones right on the horizon.

Its not like the D3 is a bad phone though, he said he just wants to use it as a phone so its not like he needs something with all the bells and whistles (webtop/4g/etc)

Yep, low tech guy using a high tech phone, could be disastrous - Well if the D4 comes out tomorrow I'll go check it out at the V store - see which one fits in my hand better (funny what my priorities are in a phone - LOL). I did check the 4G LTE extended coverage area map and it's just shy of 100 yards from my house (how accurate are those maps?). Since I have a two phone upgrade on my family plan - any suggestions for the 2nd phone or just wait until next year to upgrade the second one????

Well I didn't see the Droid 4 on the Verizon site today so I guess it isn't coming out until.... ?

I'm pretty sure they won't release it until I get fed up (my impatience gets the best of me) and I buy a D3 from Verizon. Then after the 14 day return period they will release the D4 and I won't be able to return the D3 for the D4 - Sneaky b@ast@rds!

If you're primarily gonna be on wifi and just text and send emails, then the Droid 3 wouldn't be a bad pickup. The Droid 3 on wifi has the best battery life in proportion that I've ever seen. However if you're not gonna be on wifi the majority of the time, then you must wait for the Droid 4. 4G is the ish, I cannot recommend a 3G phone knowing how useful 4G LTE is. Warning: 4G will spoil you rotten.

Yea I'm not saying the d3 is a bad phone, but if you have 4g in your area, no reason not to. A lot of people like to talk smack about 3g, but most of the time its because they haven't used it or don't have it in their area. Here in nyc you get sick 4g speeds. As the poster before me said, 4g will spoil you

Wait for the D4 or you could try the Samsung Stratosphere which is even cheaper than the D3 and has a super AMOLED screen with 4g.

I'm just 50 yards outside of the 4G LTE extended map coverage area according to the Verizon site - LOL! I looked at the Stratosphere at the V store and it didn't really impress me in comparison to the D3, just felt cheezy to me - the D3 will only cost me $169, so no biggie.

Well, currently I believe the Droid 4 is rumored for a Dec 22nd release. But again, that's just a rumor. So depends how long you want to wait. You have a 14day period to get lucky and see.

If you take out the fact of all the issues the phone is having yes it is going to be an awesome phone, otherwise it is going to be another pre-released phone that has issues straight out of the box and wont be fixed for a while (Samsung is notorious for this...) . Read around about it, its not all hyped up to be what you think. The HTC rezound has similar specs as the nexus without the bugs and it was released a month ago so whats that say about its current hardware??

As far as D3 vs D4 goes... If you want a droid razr with a keyboard go for the D4. If you want a more original 'droid' without 4g and a better keyboard go with the D3. Both have similar spec but the razr has a little better/faster chipset (omap4430 vs omap4460) And like you said, there is no removable battery which I can see being very frustrating since I'm a modder and i need to pull my battery quite often. Its all really personal preference in your case, since you will be using your phone AS A PHONE lol.. The speed difference wont be noticeable to you IMO and they both run android (and blur) so the features are identical. The D4 will probably ship with androids current version 4.0 (ice cream sandwich) while the droid 3 is currently on android 2.3.X (gingerbread) but will be updated to 4.0 hopefully in the near future.

Its a nexus you won't have to wait on Samsung for anything. Updates will come straight from google
