I have been working on trying to fix this for a couple hours now and am absolutely freaking out. I cannot get my phone to go back to factory.

I have a Moto Droid, rooted with EasyRoot, and I used Rom Manager to install a few roms and check them out. Everything was working fine, I was installing them, checking them out and moving on. I installed Cyanogen 6.0R2 and it works just fine, but now my Rom Manager is being odd. I tried to just go back to my original rooted 2.2 and it says "error with privileges" or something to that effect. I uninstalled the update, and then reinstalled the update. I then tried to just install a different mod like I had been doing and it let me download it, but when I get to the part where it asked to clear data and restart recovery, I check them and click restart, but it does nothing. I tried to flash it do the SPrecovery and do the update.zip of 2.2 manually, but it wont let me flash SPrecovery. It gives me that error with privileges message again. I have manually restarted and held X which puts me in Clockwork Mod 2.5.0.1 recovery screen, but after about 3 seconds it boots up without letting me select anything. I can move the menu, but I either click the enter and it just boots up, or wait 3 seconds and it automatically boots up. I am freaking out because I do not know how to override this to get my phone back to 2.2 rooted, or unrooted I honestly do not care. I just want factory basically.

Please if someone can help me out I would be so grateful. dancedroid

First thing I would try is going into ROM manager and down towards the bottom of the menu should be an option to fix permissions. GIve that a try and post back.

It says "An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!"

I also just noticed as I went to take a screen capture with Dropcap, it says failed to initialize. It is like the root is not being seen. It was totally working though.. I did notice that it chaged my superuser logo from a ninja to some skull thing and since then I have been having this issue.

Thanks for the fast reply :D

Boot into clockworkmod manually and install a backup

I did that. I powered off.. Then held X with power, and it comes up to the screen but no matter what I do, it just goes to Moto logo then boots up. I click on restore from sdcard, or the other one for zip, but it all just boots up. Also it only sits in recovery menu for about 3 seconds before it boots up regardless what I do.

Also, the icon to boot to recovery on Rom Manager does nothing too. It just closes box that says its going to restart and goes on as if I had done nothing.

Hmm, your recovery is gone and your su is broken... you'll need to flash an sbf

Perhaps I got in over my head and now will probably learn a wonderful lesson, but I have no idea what you are talking about.

It seems all straight forward up until now and I realize that I am not cut out to deal with these things. If someone could possibly explain in the most easiest of ways I promise I will leave my phone alone from now on.

How do I flash SBF? It is not letting me do anything manual in the way of recovery, so unless this is something I can do without Rom Manager or dealing with clockwork recovery it may work, otherwise its not letting me do ANYTHING with those programs.

I just read on other thread on how to flash this, but It says DO NOT DO IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING, IT WILL RUIN YOUR PHONE BEYOND REPAIR..

Well I do not know what I am doing and this would be terrible..

:EDIT:

I followed the instructions on how to do this.. I get to where I select my sbf file and click "start" only I cant click start.. It is not highlighted, so now what? LOL

Okay so I tried what you guys said.. It wont let me click the "start" button and now my home button does not work.

This is the worst day ever, I have a useless phone and no way to fix it.

Before you do all that SBF stuff, try this as it has worked for me on two different occasions when I had a problem very, very similar to your. What I have found is that if I press and hold the X key the minute the phone starts to reboot while in Clockwork, it will reboot back into clockwork and Clockwork will then work! I don't know why it does this, but it has worked at least twice for me. Once was with the current version of clockwork and once was with 2.01.3.

Good luck.

:DDDDDD

I think you may be on to something. I tried it, but accidently let go of the X, and then pushed it again, and it let me stay in that main clockwork menu and do things.. I clicked on restore to factory and it says cleared data, cleared cache, I then reboot and it starts over, but it is still in Cyanogen mod, with Superuser 2.3.1 which is the thing that I think is not working.. I am looking for an update.zip right now, which I will try to use from that same menu.. Hopefully that will work. I will let you know in about 15 minutes.

EDIT:

OKay, it didnt work on the 2.2 update..

Although the menu trick does work, it is telling me this

"Clockwork recovery v2.5.0.1

--Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package..
Installing update...
assert failed: file_getpop("system/build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint") == verizon/voles/sholes/sshooles:2.1-update
sholes 2.2/FRG01b/45394:user/release-keys"
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
Status 7
Installation aborted...

DAmn Damn Damnnnn

I got all excited there.. :/

I went back in, and tried to get a rom from RM and do it from there, but still tells me I have to have clockwork recovery installed, but when I goto do it, it gives me the permissions error.. I can manually update from the market, but that does not help, it still gives me error.

My initial feelings are that SU is messed up in some way. I am going to attempt to use your X trick, and try to install a different mod like UD which has a different SU all together, and perhaps that will fix it. The update.zip didnt work so I hope the next one I try does and it was just that file, otherwise back to square one.

HOLY OMG!!!! :D :D :D

Okay so I am sitting here smiling away! I am watching my phone install system "UD 6.0"

This seems very promising after the last 20 hours or so.

/waits 2 minutes/

I see a new boot screen, its the cool red droid circle (not the eye), it was the X before so this looks wonderful! Boot time seems rather long, but it is booting up.

Looks great! Looks like my little SU ninja icon is back.. Before it was a silly skull and ever since I had that my SU was messed up. It looks like the RM is gone, so hopefully clockwork is gone, I really did not like it TBH.. I assume if I want to do any updates on roms, or restore, I just use this same routine with X + recovery and I should be fine?

I want to thank you BayouFlyFisher, you were so very helpful and if I am ever down that way I will make sure to buy you a beer or a soda!!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH AGAIN!

/mark as solved :D
