I see that a restore image has now been posted, to use with RSD.

My old phone was a Nexus one, where I could restore by using fastboot to flash .img's, or just flash .zips from recovery.

Apparently that's not how things are done with Motorola??

I love my D3, but dang, I miss the openness of my N1!

Thanks for the guide, it's useful, but mostly I'm trying to fill in my vocabulary with all these Moto specific terms.

So far I'm coming to think that

RSD Lite = Motorola's proprietary version of fastboot flash .img

.sbf = .img or update.zip?

Why must Moto do things the hard way, compared with the rest of the Android world?

Is ADB and fastboot and recovery not enough?

thats what you would think but 1s you do an sbf for the 1st time u will realize how easy it is as well....but yes a sbf file is in lamen terms a "picture" of the current software on your phone so that if u mess it up or "brick" it you can flash that and it will just like you took it out of the box....rsd light is the program that works its little magic to flash it to your phone
