Screen Protector?

Okay I was reading online about my phone having gorrila glass. Well I was wondering I've been using a screen protector for a while now and was wondering if I even needed one since it has gorilla glass?

I've read that it is a coating that is scratching, not the glass. Not that it makes so much difference to the end user.
