When removing "bloatware" on a Droid 2 or X you have to be careful - the Market Applications Titanium Backup and/or Root Explorer are going to be needed for this process - I am a Droid One owner so I will leave the specifics to a D2 specialist - but no worries, we have plenty of them here :)

I created a new directory using the terminal emulator and moved the unwanted apps there.

How do I do that? And is there certain apps I shouldn't move?

You can do it real easy with an app in the market called z4Root. It will root you with one touch. Then you would download an app in the Market called root explorer and use that to remove the bloatware.

However there is something to consider before you do this. When an update comes for the D2 it's going to look for those files. And if it doesn't see them, that means you don't get updated.

What I suggest you do is keep a list of what apps you're taking out and that way when an upgrade comes you can reinstall them for that purpose. In our hacking section we have all the apps that go in the D2 so you can install it as an apk file. Should work with no problem.

Ok, but what exactly is bloatware? I thought it was apps like city id and skype that can not be unistalled.I was interested in removing apps like this because im not planning on using them. Is that an example of the apps that the update looks for? Are there anymore I should remove to free up space?

That is bloatware. City ID, Amazon mp3, Blockbuster. Anything that Verizon put in there that you don't want.

Ok, cool! Just downloaded rooted explorer. Is there anyway to copy these apps to my pc and reinstall them when the update is needed?

Ok, so now that I got root explorer and I deleted some of the bloatware, but some of the icons are still in my bin. They don't work if you click em but how do get rid of them? I was able to completely remove skype and cityid but kindle is still there and amazon is kinda still there... the icon changed to a generic icon , almost like I deleted the pic only. How do I get rid of these?

In Root Explorer follow this path: system/apps. Then delete the bloat ware.
