Put the apk file on your sdcard somewhere. Then download astro file manager from the market. In astro from your phone find your file on your sdcard. Click on the z4root apk file then click install. Before hand on your phone in settings make sure you go into application settings and allow unknown sources.

Hmm Its not letting me open the file on my phone. It won't give me the option to install either. I'm using Astro and it's on my SD card, I don't know what's wrong. Could it be the file?

** Nvm nvm I found the right file. lol

Yeah I forgot I have 2.2.1 update, so I installed and pushed the button, but I don't know if it worked... My phone started to freeze a little and then just reacted slowly. I rebooted and now it's fine but I don't know if I'm rooted. I opened up the z4 program again and the Two options are still there "Temp root" and "perm root"

If it doesn't work u will prolly have to use the motocache method on a pc for root. Or go to your Mac and remove all pdanet files and try that again. You can also try easy tether light on the market.

I dunno, it's just not working. My phone is all slow now and everytime I try to go back to the application I either have a white screen or a black screen... .GAHHHH FML lol. Why can't pdaNet just work!

Reboot and see if easy tether lite from the market works instead of pdanet.

I used tether lite before but it won't access protected sites which is lame.

Oh well I'll figure out how to root this sucker somehow.

z4root will not work with 2.2.1. Sorry. You'll need to either run Mono and superoneclick (no idea how to get it working on a Mac even with Mono) or a Linux live CD and a program called sbf_flash to flash the SPRecovery sbf Motocache1 created and then flashing the update.zip also provided in the thread Stelv gave you. I can provide links but only limited support for this option, however.
