Ota update safe to do on droid x with z4root

Well I got a ota update on my phone saying that during the installation I would but be able to send out or receive messages and calls.

Is this the official ota gingerbread release?

I'm rooted with z4root and have never installed custom firmware I think, just rooted it for adfree. Is it safe to get the update? What should I do to get the update

Its the official release. Supposedly they have tethering detection built in. I am not going to take the update...
