Seen several threads about people going overseas with their phone, in particular the recent one about the mother who took her phone on a cruise and had a few $100 worth roaming charges.

How far into Canada can you go without having to worry about getting hit with roaming charges? I plan on going to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls (Horseshoe Falls) later this year. Probably won't go any further then some of the Casinos near the falls.

If I leave the phone on will I get hit with some roaming charges or would I be close enough to the American towers to still pick up coverage?

Closest tower wins. Airplane mode works. I'd call Verizon to know for sure. You probably can turn on a roaming package then turn it off when you get back home and not be charged for the entire month.

I live 20 mins from NF, I don't get hit with roaming unless I venture deeper into Canada. If your just staying around the tourist area you should be fine, but coverage is a little shotty at the casinos. Hope that helps.

PS. Make sure you hit up Lundys Lane while your there dancedroid

We don't plan on being any further than walking distance to the Falls itself. I was up there a few yrs ago but didn't have a smartphone, so I didn't have to worry about roaming data.

I'll check out Lundys Lane.
