The interface to the marketplace is one of my biggest frustrations with this device. It is both difficult to find good applications, but hard or impossible to filter out all the garbage. Hate to say it, but surfing for apps for the iphone was fun, and on this platform it's just awful.

Have you checked out the androidzoom.com website. You can sort by several factors (category, free vs. paid, new vs. rating vs. popular). It has helped me a lot.

I love you man. Haha! No, but seriously. Thanks! This might make things a little easier on all of us! Good looking out!

There's also Androlib.com. Both site have the QR code which you can use with your Barcode Reader app.

What I get tied of are all the bigus apps claiming to be an actual app and it's just some random guy making an app with a website link... so many people are falling for this crap.

Kinda makes me wish they had more safegaurds/restrictions in place before you can submit an app.

Is anyone else sick of trudging through the huge numbers of wallpaper and lyrics and softporn apps that are flooding the marketplace site? There should be an area for this type of app.
The marketplace is becoming a trash heap for this kind of (I don't really think of them as apps) app. Something has to be done!

One mans trash is another's treasure. I don't ever wade through heaps of trash I find using the search very effective to get me to the app I'm looking for. Also reading the forum and knowing the name of the app helps. I usually don't even try an app unless I've heard about it here and got some good recommendations.

Right now there are over 2000 apps available and there are going to be many more. Some of them are worthless, some even malicious, but when you have this type of open platform that's what you're going to see. Just know what you want, get in there, get it, and leave.

you might want to check that figure... there are more then 4500 apps just in entertainment... alone.

Yeah, there is a tremendous amount of trash apps. I also gave up my ipod for the droid. I don't miss the iphone but I do miss the app browsing and searching expierence. I suppose in time the market place will come to terms with this problem until then were SOoL. GAWD I hate all that trash up there!!

The app market is pretty much a cluttered mess with a weak interface but i'm sure it will get fixed over time. I never understood why they don't make a nice web interface that you can search on a desktop.
Don't bet on it. I had the G1 the day it came out, about...what...two years ago maybe? The market looks exactly the same today as it did then. Soundboards, gun sound "apps", wallpapers, lyrics, individual apps for every city's transit system in the entire universe...etc.

Maybe it will get better now that the Android phones are more popular, but so far - it looks almost identical.

I believe it. The last "official" figure I heard was over 2000 so now it's doubled and then some.

Thanks for the info, I was wondering what it was up to by now.

If you think the Android market is bad about useless apps, try trudging through the 9,000 Fart apps on iPhone App Store.

Could you give an example of some of the apps, like their names,
because like the starter of this thread the apps I've seen are absolutely
useless, except the one I purchased, "Weather Bug Elite", other than that I have seen nothing interesting.

According to AndroLib, as of today, there are 20648, not 2000. The Market hasn't been that low in a long time.

Sure. Apps I use on a regular basis are Streebl, Astro, Better Keyboard (Android) & Ringdroid . Several games I have like Ace Roller Video Poker, Home Run Battle 3D, Uno, Super Yatzy.
