I have a Droid and a Droid Eris, and they are about the same in usable speed. Most of the time I actually prefer to use my Eris over my Moto Droid.

P.S. I don't have 2.1 on either at this time....

Although blurry it does appear to be running 2.1 and fairly fast. I saw animated wallpapers at the beginning.

If they get the full 2.1 and we don't then I may just be a tad bit pissed off. Ok... more than a tad.

Then its one hell of a rumor. We had a comment left on our site with, another on CNET's site and then these photos.

All have similar stories...sounds like a lot of work to be a big prank.

Maybe your site's not that reoputable.

That's what the internet is for, people pulling pranks, and on the internet this is not a big effort, it could easily be one guy making both comments, probably took 10 minutes of his time.

That's why it's just an IMAGE. You could put that image on a blackberry if you wanted to.

More to the point, on Droid Life they say a source got the Droid 2.1 OTA and it didn't go well, whatever that means.

I say fail, on both.
