Deleting Apps

I have some apps I no longer want but I can't drag the app to the delete screen and delete them (like I can on the fast access screen).
I'm thinking that deleting the icon wouldn't delete the actual app anyway
can someone please advise me how to get rid of them?

Go to settings>apps>manage apps and go to downloaded, click on the app you want to delete and hit uninstall.

You can delete the apps by following these steps

Go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> Select The App you want to Uninstall (delete) -> hit Uninstall.
and you will get rid of the applications

Well, I use an app in the market that allows you to delete and app very easy. (Keyword: uninstaller)
