Somebody needs to make a Venn diagram showing why it made sense to license the name. You know, all die-hard Star Wars fans are nerds. Most smartphone enthusiasts are nerds. There is some real overlap there.

It's not so much IP law -- you can't copyright words like that (though I am not an IP lawyer) -- as it is greed IMO.

You can trademark them.... but Trademarks are really only enforceable if you continue to make an effort to enforce them... Dunno if PKD's familiy has really been spending time enforcing any trademarks on "Nexus" though.
