What does everyone think is the best app to use to send text messages to groups since Google got rid of that function?

I use hangouts for all my sms needs.

But how do you send a message to a group, meaning a single click to send to several people. I can type in individual names, but that gets annoying.

I've been using hangouts for a while now but can't figure that out

Type circle name and all people in that circle will get message.

I've tried that, but it only lets me use email addresses, is there something I'm missing?

I type a circle name and it sends a message to all people in the circle. Not sure if it uses sms or email, but the end result is the same. All those in the group get the message.

I'm still using razr maxx and I'm wondering about this when I upgrade. On the Razr I use stock to send but dwcontacts to select the group. It allows you to select the group and if you have multiple numbers for some you can select the number you want to send to. The stock text app then allows you to decide group or individual text before you send.
I send to some who don't have smart phones and the group text doesn't work for them. Also I don't need everyone to see the replies.
It works for my needs sending about 20 texts to my firefighters.
