Verizon to reps: Don't comment on "rumors" about Tiered Data

So, you know that small "troubling" rumor that has been floating around for a few days? The one where Verizon may switch to tiered data as early as July 29th? Well, Verizon officially addressed these rumors for the first time, in an e-mail to its reps. Now, the email doesn't give much information for the blogging world to chew on. What is most interesting however, is that Verizon instructs its reps to keep their mouths shut in response to customer inquiries on the subject.

"Thank you for your inquiry but I have no information on any pricing change at this time. I'd be happy to review your current plan and let you know what your options are..."

Sure this may simply be an automated corporate response, but to me, it sounds like Verizon is getting a bit defensive here. So, will Verizon be dropping its unlimited data option on the 29th? I guess we'll find out on five more days. Until then, let's chalk it up as a rumor: nothing more, nothing less.

I think they will give us an official 30 days warning before they make the switch. Wuyanks is right on the money though, I read that exact same comment from a member yesterday who talked to a rep.

well i know i cant prove my following comment but i rooted 2 droid at my local verizon store for the employees and one person i stay in contact with and he said the tiered data is true but not sure on the date. again i know this is considered speculation still but......

Gah! My entire town is out of Droid Incredibles and I wanted to get one before they switch to non-unlimted, I just hope we have a 30 day notice or something like that so I can get mine and enjoy unlimited data!

it may be the best. I think when its all said and done it will be like all the other vzw rumors. People get hyped and have hearburns over nothiong. They going to keep the unlimited plan. But that do not mean a tiered plan is not coming. A tiered plan is "fair".
Ok for those who buy a smart phone and is use the same unlimited plan as everyone else; even though the may use .5 of a gig a month, where riff raff over there internet at the hose went out so he is pushing 8 to 9 gigs. I think it is only fair for those who use less pay less period.

Unlimited Data is a positive thing, if the "rumors" were untrue, they would have said "of course not, we're continuing our unlimited data service".

But since they're saying otherwise, of course it will be changed.

It seems like this is going to be true, regardless of the date. It may not be the 29th but I'm sure it will be eventually. I just hope to allow current users to grandfather in and not force us to switch to tiered data plans. I use a lot of data on my phone and it has nothing to do with tethering, I hope I'm not going to have to compromise.

You will be grandfathered in.. so long as you make no changes to your rate plan. Once you make a change, you gain new benefits of pricing, features, etc.. so they can then cancel your grandfathered data, saying it's incompatible with current rate plans. AT&T does this often. Be careful how you handle your account management.

I think they'll switch to tiered pricing on the 29th just like the Droid got Froyo on the 13th.

We'll keep in mind, this is beneficial to them and will make them more money in the long run. Unlike the Froyo update for current droid holders such as myself, they can care less about us getting Froyo.

But I hope your comment is correct and it's just talk at least for the time being.

I talked to an Tech for Verizon and he told me that that was at&t and that verizon would never do that. Of course I got his name and rep number so when it happens I will have proof if they try and change lol!
