Update version 2.2 for Galaxy S - Fascinate

I got friends that have the Droid x and I prefer my fascinate over it. I love the performance the fascinate has.

If they can really listen to your phone, leave it by a computer speaker and stream porn all night while you sleep, so they think ur a beast.

Otherwise, having a hardware tech background I call bull****. Its not a valid ability. As the hawks we are on battery usage we would notice.

I would think the most They could do is listen to our digital calls on the backend. That's more realistic. But try the porn thing for laughs.

And Jack Bauer is a freaking fictional character. I sell sport optics and night vision and I would love nothing more than to strangle the morons thru the phone who want night vision to act the same as the green camera filter they use on the TV show. It doesn't work in the real world like you see on 24. That show is such a crock of crap.

Well, being a "tech guy" you're fully aware of how connected systems can be controlled remotely - in fact, techs commonly do it all the time with with routers, PC's, modems, etc., wireless, or otherwise. It's not far fetched to realize they could do it discreetly, without the powering up normally. It's code - Verizon or whoever can do anything they want with your phone.

Napolitano's resources were: the legislation itself. I'll get you a citation, if you want - but I don't want to get into a big political debate on a droid forum.

Yeah i had the droid x myself and that phone was nothing compared to the fascinate. I had to bend over backwards trying to get one. Everyone on craigslist was doing the same. Everyone wanted to trade their droid x's for fascinates but couldnt find anyone willing to trade their fascinates for x's. People obviously seem to get which phone really is the better of the two.

A provision of the Homeland Security Act. Judge Napolitano actually outlines this in his book Nation Of Sheep. They can even evesdrop on your conversations if your phone is turned off.

America. Land of the free, right?

Yeah and they can even listen if you pull the battery out and throw it in the pool in the back yard. Now where is my tin foil hat. dancedroid

Fact is, if a call is in progress, its not secure. The point I was making was that if they tapped us while NOT on a phone call, via mic or Cam, we would notice. Since we obsessively watch features and battery life.

But then again, maybe these squalls whining about their batteries are " terrorists', and being monitored.

Good citizens get the best battery life? Ha, I still think its beyond far fetched.

Ally just got 2.2. One of my family members has an Ally and it got updated 20 min ago...
Jealousy.....

:icon_evil: The ally is a borderline dumb phone. It makes me rage that it has 2.2 while verizon's flagship phone does not.

I am a VZW employee and was at our Regional Kickoff meeting today. At the vendor fair I asked the Samsung representative when 2.2 was coming for the Fascinate. He said that 100% it was coming within the next two weeks. I told him I wasn't going to hold my breath. He pulled out a fascinate from his pocket and told me "Seriously, two weeks. I have been waiting since this sucker got released. It's coming."

I am still not holding my breath.

From what I gather though is that once 2.2 is updated then 2.3 is a much easier transition and should also be expected by the summer. I just want Flash damnit!

I hate those kickoff meetings... alot of 'rah rah rah shish boom bah' crap when I would rather be at the store making sales, so I was beyond relieved when I saw that I was scheduled to stay at the store rather than attend that event last week. dancedroid

Getting info from those we should get info from on this issue is like pulling teeth...earlier in this thread I read the info on the link to another forum where a supposed 'anonymous Samsung insider' wrote about the delay being caused by Samsung wanting to charge the carriers for the 2.2 update as a feature update, and I checked on that with my sources to see if it had any validity...

Although I could not get any definitive as to whether or not it was true, I had two people from our technical division tell me the delay had to do with the 'iPhonish' Samsung Galaxy overlays not working well with the Froyo programming in beta testing. (shrugs shoulders) TBV

This is the most likely scenario that caused the delay. Having worked in a similar technology field, and having experience with Verizon as a corporate customer, I would put my money on the custom Galaxy S UI being the culprit all along. Seeing as that custom UI is the key differentiator relative to other Android phones, it isn't something they would want to ditch for an OS upgrade.

Perhaps it's not the Iphonish UI, but the actual IPhone. I have to wonder (I have no reason to say it's true) if Big Red is more concerned about pushing out the IPhone then they are about getting updates to their current customers. It makes a lot of sense if you think about it, get all the programmers on the IPhone to get it to market.

I'm with the UI difference.

8pened!

Ill believe it when someone actually gets it
