receive text without giving my number

Is there any app for my droid 1 that will give me the abbility to send and receive text messages without giving my real phone number? i found a couple for sending but none of them receive.

You mean like an instant messaging app or email?

no i mean like, say my phone # is 555-555-5555 i want it to show up as 666-666-666 and for the person to be able to send a message to 666-666-6666 and me get it on my phone. does that make more sense?

You'd need to own that number or both of you would need to be using a special app. Just give the person an email.

Alternatively, if you get a Google Voice account, you can send text messages through that (separate number and no charge). However, GV isn't the greatest of text messaging apps since it was pushed as an alternative to visual voicemail.
