OK, who's planning on upgrading to the Droid X

I have no complaints about my original Moto Droid or it's speed. None, zip, zero. I have no desire to upgrade.

Faster processor usually means less battery life, but we'll see once the reviews come out.

The Droid X CPU chip is made with a 45 nm process. The original Droid CPU is made with a 65 nm process and would use more power if running at the same speed.

Power consumption will probably be about the same given the difference in stock clock speed (550 MHz versus 1 GHz).

interesting feedback from cnet on their review of the droid x...

Camera is a bit sluggish. Motoblur software is a lot better but still not quite as refined as HTC Sense. Lacks a front-facing camera.

As for the Droid X's 8-megapixel camera, picture quality was a bit mixed. Despite having autofocus, we weren't always able to get a clear shot, and it doesn't help that there's a bit of shutter lag. With a little patience, you can get some nice pictures, and the flash did a great job of capturing images in darker rooms

The Droid X has a 1GHz TI OMAP processor, and the phone has been quite responsive. It's not quite as lightning-fast as the Droid Incredible, but we were able to open multiple apps with little delay.

No more voice charges?

Both the Evo and Droid X are great phones. -snip-
-strong rumor they are going tiered data later in the year ala ATT-

Some rumors from inside VZw hint that voice charges will go away to be replaced by data charges only. LTE is not built for voice, so to speak, and some fancy digital xlation must occur b4 voice can be xmitted and received. In essence, it's all just data anyway.
AND as another member pointed out, he (or she) doesn't use much voice, just the websurfing & txting functions. Many others are doing the same and Verizon knows it.

See, the reason that I didn't get the Incredible is because it didn't have a physical keyboard. So my wife got a Moto Droid and I was happy with mine.

Then I tried out Swype and the X is looking attractive. I'll definitely wait a couple of months so I can get my hands on a model and see how the new motoblur works out and maybe see if it gets Rooted quickly. I might just use my Moto as a wifi surfer at home lol

I will upgrade if the 8GB internal memory is usable to install apps on...

The 8gb of internal memory can be used for apps. No different then the 256mb that the current Moto Droid has. With Android 2.2 supporting apps2sd, internal storage may not even be an issue anymore.

I just got the Incredible a little over 30 days ago and with terrible reception where I live and the uncertainty of HTC & Verizons relationship together I decided to put it on Ebay. I sold it in 1 day and got a whopping $600 + shipping for it :) People still really want that Incredible bad I guess.....

I'm sure I will have to pay a little extra when the Droid X comes out but it wont sting to bad...

Having a larger screen and faster processor isn't going to change the experience enough for me to upgrade from the Droid. When it's a 4g network and a 4g device hits the market count me in. They are churning out new Android devices like Land o Lakes churns out butter, so one can't get too caught up in chasing the specs because in a few months you'll always be behind.

I just bought the original Droid a little over two months ago (was lured in by VZW's $100 rebate) so I think I'm hosed for a shot at the X.

But that's ok...I want to hold out for the Pro later this year anyhow :-)

I'm totally on the fence about this. I just got my Droid a few weeks ago, I absolutely love it, but if I'm able to get (technically) a better phone for the same price, I'm thinking about doing it.

I totally ignored the Incredible when upgrading because of the lack of physical keyboard, but now that I've been using the Droid for a few weeks, I rarely, if ever, actually use the physical keyboard. Android has got the on-screen qwerty down so well that I see no need for it.

I'm concerned with the size as well.

That and the fact that I'd need to send my Droid back next week in order to make my 30 days, leaving me without a smartphone for a few weeks at least.

Decisions, decisions.
