Not happy with the droid. Gallery, touch screen, wrong person calls plain POS

Ever think that Task Killer may be the problem? A lot of people w/o Task Killer never have any of these issues. I know people with task killer that say their phone has slowed down, and they have to kill tasks all day. It's been said before, TASK KILLER RUINS THE GOOGLE OS. Do not use Task Killer! The Google OS closes apps when they are not being used on it's own when it needs more memory. It will close the unused app by itself. When you force it close, you confuse the OS. It wasn't made to have a task killer, and you are actually ruining your phone by using one. So please, Do a full reset of your OS, and never download Task Killer again. Then complain if you wish.

Had my phone since november, its still lightning fast! (Check out my ClockworkMod Launcher video on youtube). My phone is loaded with Apps/Music/Pictures/Widgets. No problems what so ever!

Anything else you would like to complain about? Simple solution return your phone or sell it, problems solved!
I hate being ugly but I agree. If you are unhappy just return it. Verizon had at one time a 15 day no question asked return policy on everything but data charges. The Droid is not for everyone and its obvious that it is not the right phone for you. So save your self some heart ache and get another phone, or surf carriers. Find one that you like I am sure its out there if you do research.:greendroid:

Why is it, that when someone has problems with their Droid, they assume everyone has the same problems?

I have never experienced any of the above issues. Instead of coming here and complaining, why not come here for a solution... and the best solution is to return the phone and get a new one, and see if the problems persist.

Yes, there are "bad apps" in the gallery, and poorly written programming is a pet peeve of mine. I have gone through my apps and deleted the ones that were causing issues, and then fired off an email (friendly in tone, of course) to the developer alerting them to the problems that their app is causing, and perhaps they will update it to eliminate the issue. Several apps that I have used that I considered poor, have improved enough for me to try them again, so, while there are many developers, a goodly number of them are responsive to their customers (free app, or not).

The Droid is a great device, and is not for everyone, but step one for you is to replace the device you have with a different one, and then go from there.

BTW, a neighbor of mine is on his 3rd iPhone, seems his phone keeps dropping calls, and is having 3G problems as well.....Also, phone won't hold a charge, touch screen unresponsive......

OK here is my 2 cents on the whole att Iphone vs Droid. I have gotten to extensively use the Iphone and I did not like it. I used the att network for a little over 4 months in that 4 months time frame I used a Motorola F3. At the time when I was using att I lived on the MS,AL,LA Gulf Coast area. I had no less than 20 droped calls. To me this is unexceptable. The plan I was on I got a free 1000 min every month and the phone was free. The person I was staying with worked for a att call center and he let me use this plan as i need a temp phone and the plan and phone cost him nothing. This same person that has now worked at the att call cener in Ocean Spring, MS does not even use ATT, he has Tmobile. When I asked him why was he paying for a service that he could get FREE from att he said ohh Tmobile just game me a awesome package. To me that Is sad when you work for a company and dont even use the services that the company offers to employees for FREE. I have had my droid for approx a month now and I love it. Also I have had Verizon since 2001 except the 4 months I used att. and I have had a total of 3 droped calls since 2001. What you have to look at is that even if you do go with ATT you are going to have to buy a phone and a data package PLUS you are going to have to pay verizon for a ealry termination fee on your current contract. Now this is somthing you may not know about. Verizon is close with Iphone to getting a deal for the Iphone on verizon network. As it is right now att is offering certain droids on the att market. Also my Gf and mer Mom had att before I got them to switch to verizon and her and her mothers calls were always gettting droped. Something else you dont know, I installed direct tv for about 6 months. When we went to install most of the time we were in the middle of nowhere. Me and the master tech had three phones a Southern Linc, an Att phone and my verizon phone. One day the transmission craped out and if I had not had my phone it would of been a long walk back to the house where we just put in the Direct tv. So eventhough the southern link and the att phone would not work my verizon phone worked with no problem. Oh btw the master tech that had the att phone was the same guy that got Tmobile service eventhough he now works for ATT. And to this day he will not go to att eventhough he gets free 1,000 min talk time amonth.

I hate how my droid clicks when I slide the keyboard in and out. On a real quiet day it wakes my mother up and I get hit with a wooden spatula. Now, you all may be laughing at me but you've no idea how much it sucks to have splinters on the side of your dome.
haahah 50 lashings with a wet noodle for you sir..:icon_ banana::icon_ banana:

See the whole problem really isn't the OP at all. He never had the joy of experiencing a Blackberry Storm 2.

So by all means OP, try the Storm 2. I will say this, it's better then the original Storm. I also tell you that from my experience with Storm it made me realize what a great phone the Droid is. But hey, maybe for you it will be perfect.

:rofl3::rofl3:..This was the funniest post I've read in a long time
Splinters on the side of your dome must suck....:rating10:

I hear you TWK/screen too sensitive

I'm not happy with mine either. The screen is way too sensitive as well as the buttons at the bottom of the screen (menu, home, back, search). I barely glance one of the buttons or something on the screen and I'm diverted from whatever i'm doing and have to start over or hit the back button. I waste so much time on the net bc I inadvertently click on things and then my battery gets drained. So I hear you on that issue, too. If I don't use my phone much my battery lasts. But then what's the point spending all this money on a phone you can't use that much?

Also, I can't use it at all outdoors. There's so much glare I can't see anything so I can't use it in the car for directions or searches.

Does anyone know if Motorola will provide some fix to adjust the screen sensitivity? Is it even possible since it's not a bug but a design issue? If not I'll probably be trading it in.

The sensativity is the lesser of two evils, I've had a phone before that was touchscreen and cause of its ****ty sensativity I never wanted to own another touch screen again you may not like it but I'm sure your only a minority. Can't please everyone so please as many possible. I thought I saw an apparently on the marker that could adjust the sensativity, Google it might find your answer, I'm at work right now but ill check when I get home to see what I can find

Cheese with post

(am I flaming?.......whatever, this thread is based on a flame. and I feel offended in a way)

Good Lord, do you wan't some cheese with that first post?

Why do people get offended by someone having problems with his/her phone? I just don't get it. I've been to other forums where this happens, too. Somebody writes in bc they don't understand a phone or some piece of technology or they just want to vent their frustration and people get all up in arms. Is this how forums are? Sheesh. They're just writing bc they need help.

Nobody has a problem with helping but wheb they join only to whine about piddly crap like a kid then yes, screen won't work with soggy wet fingers? Really? That's such a retarded flame. If people would learn how to construct a critisism post instead of kicking feet around people would be less inclined to treat them with more respect

Yes, the 2.1 update IS crap. I'll give you that. But the Storm 2????? REALLY??????
This is one of the most mediocre updates I have ever seen with such a popular device. At least Blackberry was updating the Storm regularly as has Palm. This is not entirely Motorola's fault as Google seems to have been dropping the ball on the bug fixes too. Instead of adding another worthless app into the deck (Goggles) there are many things to fix. In fairness, the Storms had so many problems they had to update the phone regularly.

Screen dropping icons??? Never heard of that one. Like someone said earlier, you could have WAY too many apps installed.
This is a very well known problem. I have had this too A LOT after the update. What happens is that the home screen loses all the icons - it's just blank. There is a thread here about someone saying you have to stop and start the "home" app that is running in the background but that didn't work for me. I'm sick of having to reboot the phone too in order to have any icons on my home screen. I have less apps installed than many here and this problem only happened occasionally. Perhaps it's all the crap I have to deal with the dumb, lame brained decisions that still aren't fixed and running as services, e.g. myLock, etc. (although even stripped down to only myLock, which works when it works, same problem.) Yes, the core system should allow a user to turn off the locking at certain times (especially in calls), turn off the autosensors that don't work at night or if you have long hair, have a simple button to answer calls instead of that idiotic swipe that frequently requires multiple attempts - especially when the phone lags, etc.

Facebook app problem? Yeah, it sucks. BLAME FACEBOOK AND 3RD PARTY DEVELOPERS FOR THAT ONE. NOT THE PHONE. I personally use the mobile site, (not the touch screen mobile site). It works flawlessly. Just add a bookmark shortcut instead of an app shortcut.
Doesn't work flawlessly for me. Perhaps it's Xscope that doesn't like to play well with the site.

And as far as task killing? Battery dying? How much do you use your phone? All the time? Battery's gonna die if you are always on it. The iPhone NOW has "multi tasking" but no task manager. The storm 2 doesnt have multi tasking as far as i know, correct me if i'm wrong. So if you still want to jump ship, go ahead. (enjoy that blackberry market!......oh wait)
Blackberry doesn't need a market. All you have to do is go to any distributor rather than that horrible market where you can't find anything you want easily. The battery life on the Droid for phone use is pretty good. but for regular usage, it seems (and I could be wrong) that it is much less than my iPhone. I don't think it has to do with multitasking. It may have to do with all those pixels and not considering making the phone a little larger than it is already to power it properly. There isn't a day that goes by where I am not seriously concerned with the phone going dead in a business day so I try to carry an external charger in my bag. I keep the screen brightness at its lowest setting. Unfortunately only rooting allows you to do power management functions including clocking the CPU, etc.

And of course there are lots of free apps that are crap. Its called open source. Google is not Apple. They are not as controlling with their market. And even still the iPhone market has some sh*t apps. It happens. There are sh*t developers believe it or not. BUT there are a LOT more free apps per ratio on the Android market as is on the iPhone market.
This is partially true. It's also much harder to develop on Android and there are also other major problems that make developers question whether it's worth the effort for a variety of reasons.

You are obviously a minority being disappointed with your droid.
He's not disappointed with his Droid. He's disappointed with his Droid after it was updated to 2.1. I agree- this caused much incompatibility and not all developers are fixing their apps.

Some of the problems he experiences might deal with limitations in the API. This may take time to address. But fragmentation is killing this phone. Every app developer has to make multiple copies for every flavor of Android being developed. There should be a core set which is uniform and customizing on another layer, which I'm sure has been done but can't understand completely what is the problem.

I thought that 2.1 would bring something more than a Gallery app (which is cool) and more junk thrown onto the deck. The enhancements to improve battery life have led many to question how they did it and whether it caused additional lag. I'll say this much - my phone now lags much longer than it did before and more frequently. And applications are still "clunky" and not smooth. It still looks, feels and operates like something kludged together. It's still better than the iPhone for ability to use many different apps but it's far less reliable. My voice recording apps are all unreliable. I'm far more concerned with something crapping out on me than I ever was with any other phone, e.g. Palm, Blackberry and iPhone. It shouldn't be that way but I'm not hearing direction.

Slinky, you're just so wrong on so many levels I don't know where to start. First the Blackberry Storm never received Official Updates on a regular basis. I had one for a year and I saw 2 updates. I also had a Blackberry Storm 2 and while that was better then the Storm 1 it doesn't come close to the Droid.

Screen dropping icons, I've heard of this, never experienced it once myself.

I don't do Facebook so I'll let that one alone.

Blackberry distributors are a pia, specially when there is an update. You got to go to the same distributor, or remember which one you bought the app from remember you PIN number. Too much trouble, the Market is easier.

2.1 is a good update, and the Droid today is a better phone then it was when it first came out. Mine works great, I don't get FC. And now we have 2.2 and pretty soon we will have flash. Will Blackberry get that? I don't think so.

There were several updates to the Storm and many more to the Palm. But as I said, the key is how substantial the updates were, not just the number of updates. To say the 2.1 "update" is lame is a compliment and many agree that it's little more than cosmetic with a few changes under the hood that unfortunately are affecting many apps that are updated. Before you start telling people they are wrong, you should be sure you are correct.

I don't know how long you've used the Droid. Here's just a small sample and I experienced this with virtually nothing on the device too.

Please explain to me how 2.1 improved your phone over version 2.0 and I'm not just talking about how nothing seems to happen to your Droid (but does for many of us.) What did 2.1 add or change?

Regarding the Market, I agree that the concept is easier but, for the moment, it's a far cry from what it should be. Browsing for apps and phone compatibility is a total and complete PITA. While updating is easier I can lose my mind with the number of necessary updates that are required every week for all of my apps. Blackberry apps got updated when they needed to and were not afflicted by nearly as many bugs, which probably has to do with a far more mature and solid OS.

Getting Flash? That's not a 2.1 update and it's still NOT HERE. By the time it is, there will probably be a few more models out, much faster, better battery life and running it might drain the Droid even further. The OP has some decent points about the update. I still like my Droid but the update was very lame and, in some ways, counterproductive.
