Nexus 1 Spec Sheet

It's a phone to me, not a techy cult lol. I have had the droid for 3 months and we all know tech shelf life stands at about 3 ot 6 months which makes anything you buy obsolete over time.

The droid is more than what I need and I use it mainly as a novelty anyway, I'll wait for the vzw new every two and get whats out then, while some people may be on their third phone by then.

The 'need' to upgrade to the newer phone doesn't phase me, and this N1 thing isn't advanced enough to want to spend money and a contract on.

IMO it's like someone telling a Ferrari owner that their 360 Stradale is old news and they need to but the latest F430 or 458 Italia...sorry that's the race fan/motorhead in me lol.

What about the multitouch issues people are talking about with the N1? That might be the one thing that would keep me from buying it.

First things first.....I love the droid. I love it more since rooting and overclocking and custom roms. Wifi tether is priceless to me. The N1 is a nice phone but it is not advanced enough for me to switch either. If i had never found this forum it would be a different story i think because i wouldn't have learned everything i have to this point.

Anyway, i won't upgrade until "droid 2" comes out.

really wish they would all have "N" wifi capabilities. What are they thinking? N is the new standard. (i know, i know....power consumption plays a part of it)

That's one of the big issues for me. When you add that to the fact that the N1 doesn't have a physical keyboard, it pretty much kills it for me. Now, if the Verizon N1 would have been a world phone, that might have made me think twice. But since it's not, I see more issues with the N1 for me than with keeping the Droid.

Out of curiousity have you rooted your Droid or do you not want to take that route? In all seriousness if you haven't it's like getting a brand new phone. Android 2.1, custom kernels, wifi tethering, overclocking, etc...

I agree with kenkamm...I have seen video of the multitouch issue on the N1. That would be a definite deal-breaker...especially if it doesn't have an actual keyboard! If you head on over to droid-life.com they have posted a conversation with the motorola guys from today basically verifying the 2.1 by the end of the month! I personally would love to root the droid and do a little overclocking, but I am so paranoid that I will brick the phone and have to pay $600 for a new one.

How safe is it really?

Well an example being me. Researched rooting and all the goodness that comes with it. Bought phone+plan through wirefly.com, received phone 2 days later, rooted 7 minutes after opening box. Have been running a custom 2.1 ROM and low voltage kernel as well as overclocking to 1 Ghz (on demand) without any stability or heat issues at all. Battery life is excellent.

An example of battery life would be yesterday. I went on a trip to Atlantic City. Unplugged Droid at 7:30 am. Started at 8am, 2 hours of Pandora on the way down. 3.5 hours of Pandora in the Casino. 45 minutes of talk. 2 hours of Pandora on the trip back up plus some light gaming and playing with the GPS. Arrived home at 7:00 PM with 20% battery left and left Pandora go through speaker when the phone finally shut off it was 8:30 PM.

So essentially 13 hours of near non-stop usage. Couldn't be happier! :icon_ banana:

I have another upgrade comming soon. If droid doesn't have 2.1 by the time verizon gets the nex i might switch.

When the N1 came out I wanted it bad tried waiting finally couldn't take it anymore and broke down and bought the Droid best thing I ever did no regrets at all. The last two phone I had were HTC and I can till you the hardware quality sucked compared to the Droid it's like comparing a Pinto to a Tank.

I got rid of the iPhone in favor of the droid and don't regret it one bit. However, the next-gen iPhone could take back the upper hand IF Apple chooses to do so with it (i.e., multitasking, or maybe even backgrounds [gasp!] without jailbreaking for God's sake). I'm not an Apple or Droid fanboy, I just want to use what's good and change it up once in a while to keep it interesting. I don't want to buy a N1 and find out a month or two later that the new iPhone will blow its doors off.

Multi-Tasking, maybe. As there have been rumors that iPhone OS SDK 3.2 shows native multi-tasking. As for performance I don't see a huge leap over the 3GS. If anything Apple will replace the display with a nicer AMOLED display. Other than that I wouldn't get all excited. Apple sucks people into new products releasing feature upgrades that should have been standard.

And there is the explanation for the delay in the 2.1 Droid Upgrade.

If 2.1 is out first, there won't be as big of a draw for the N1. If they give the N1 a couple solid weeks of sales before the 2.1 upgrade on the Droid, I bet they'll push a lot more units.
