(My) Droid Doesn't

I always read about how people do a factory reset of their phones and BAM! All their apps are there like it all never happened. When I do that, I get my contacts, and my *paid* apps, but not my free ones.

What gives? This certainly isn't normal, is it?

go into settings>privacy>backup settings

is that checked or unchecked?
when checked it should be backing up all your crap on googles server or so I understand it. if your droid is checked and your apps still don't load after a factory reset then I duno

No your DROID is not broken, from everything I have seen posted your contacts, paid apps, and google stuff will reinstall, but your free apps you have to go and reinstall yourself

So... when I first got my droid (love it btw) I also got screen protectors in the pack of three... I messed up the first two and got the third one on for about a month before it got **** under it somehow... is the screen durable enough that it doesn't need it, or should I go ahead and buy more?

simple...the free apps give you one shot at downloading them...if you pass on that, you loose them forever,,as google isn't for wishers....

Most of my Apps are free (so I'm a mooch). They all come back, and I've done DOZENS of resets troubleshooting a GPS issue. Check your backup setting as previously stated.

?? That makes no sense whatsoever.

That is definitely a subject which has the forum divided. Many use them and many don't. I say if you do decide to get another one get a good one like Zagg rather than those horrible Verizon ones. They cost more, but are worth it.

Yeah, all of my apps come back after doing a data/cache wipe. Been installing a lot of different roms and haven't had a problem at all.
