Sorry guys but I met with my Data guy from Verizon. He runs all of the Northern California region and he usually has the devices early testing them out. He showed me the Palm Pre Plus which is a neat little toy. I asked about the update on the Droid. He says he met with a rep from Motorola who told him it will roll out in sometime in Feb. He has been pretty reliable so I trust him

No surprise to me. Given that it just hit the root tree last week. Figure Moto has to have it for a week or two (min) then give it to VZW for approval. Then VZW has to prep their network to push it (and train their techs to support it). 6-8 weeks seems reasonable to me. Plus it will give the developers some more time to fix their apps so not all of them are broken with the OTA hits. I can wait, it won't kill me. Just my $0.02

I honestly dont see why it would take 6-8 weeks. For example even Google said 2.0.1 had more changes than 2.1 did to the SDK and it was released early december and the OTA started to hit on Dec 9th?

I still am hopeful that we will see a release on the 22nd. The only thing I can see really delay it further is possibly some bug fixes that are being applied, maybe some Droid specific optimizations, etc...

Okay, at the risk of starting a fire around here. I just got a phone call from my girlfriend's son, he was listening to the radio, and said he heard a commercial for Verizon and the commercial said that Android 2.1 will be released on January 25th.

I grilled him at length about what the commercial said, if they were referring to Android 2.1, and the update for the Droid devices.

So, here is one more for the hopper, do what you will with it......:motdroidvert::motdroidvert::reddroid::reddroid:

I'm coming from the world of Blackberry where we are still waiting for 5.0 for like a year now. So I don't expect any kind of miracles here for a speedy release. I'll be glad if we have this before summer.

My only argument to that would be, IMHO I doubt Verizon would waste the money for a radio announcement for that. Doesn't make sense to me, way to much money involved for so little of their customer base that it would effect. Text message or email or something I could buy into, but not a radio add.

A little bit more, from my girlfriend's son:

He was listening to WTMX, 101.9, here in Chicago (for any Chicagoans here) He heard the commercial somewhere around 1:40 pm. He stated that the Verizon commercial mentioned Android 2.1, and something about the update for January 25th. He was very clear that it was a Verizon Wireless commercial. WTMX is the sort of pop/adult contemporary station here in Chicago, and it's a fairly popular station.

I'll listen to the station and see if I hear anything.

Not sure why it would be in a commercial, but then, who knows? :motdroidhoriz:

I can only hope that browser scrolling goes back to what it was before 2.01 came out. I mean, nothing is wrong with the browser now, but it just scrolled so beautifully and fluidly... oh, and the added home screens will be pretty sweet too.

I saw something about theAndriod 2.1 release for the Droid in some skywriting today....but it was kinda cloudy (and there was a pretty stiff wind), so it may have been a used car advertisement instead. ...Or maybe even a marriage proposal.

If the commercial does in fact exist it could be Verizon's attempt at stopping people from buying the Nexxus if the OS is the deciding factor.

Honestly, if Verizon really was trying to do that, I would expect more commercials than just 1 random radio station....espcially considering how much they have pumped into the Droid for advertising.

I could care less whether their advertising it. I just want 2.1 so bad. The wait is killing me. Uggh plz announce 2.1 already or release it. Pleeeaaase

I'm surprised we are this close to a over the air update and still don't have access to a downloadable file to install manually.... am I missing something?
