Moto Droid does not receive MMS when using google voice

I recently discovered that I am not able to receive MMS messages. I called verizon and was told to dial *73, which allowed me to receive MMS messages, but disabled my voice mail forwarding to google voice. I was able to send a picture to my phone from my gmail account ( only once ) but it was received as a slide show. Which doesn't work for me either.

I have the Moto Droid running 2.1, not rooted. I am using Handscent messaging.

The phone displays most things as slide clips when they come in through mms. It's a real bummer and needs to be fixed.

Like if you have a little animated clip with video and sound it willplay the video then the sound.
