Modifying Car Dock to Allow Video

you'd be surprised how much "peripheral" vision the lens actuall has. when it's mounted, it almost has a view of my entire windshield. i also have to be conscious of finger placement. whenever i feel like i'm no where near the lens, there's my finger!

we got shafted on this snowfall. we only got a dusting compared to the north and east. i'd have gbs of video up by now. lol.

I know what you mean about getting shafted with snow.......it almost never snows here. We got about two inches of rain here from that storm.

We did to get to play in some snow this weekend though, we had a Christmas party with my family that lives in western NC. There was 10 to 11 inches there and it was a heavy wet snow. Even managed to get my Murano stuck errr I mean "temporally halted". Wish I had had a camera with me. lol

the pic above (and in my avy) was from last year's record breaking snow for the area. us four suby guys had to help push a jeep cherokee up a hill that we were braked on and resumed our business with zero slippage.

awd ftw.

nice GR, i have an 08 AW. you on iwsti?

boxer rumble is the music...

also is there a way to mount it a little further back more like in between the driver and passsenger seats? would be really nice to see the RPM and MPH when during auto x or canyon driving,

you could try to mount it on the dome light, but i'd suspect that you'll never get the level of detail you're looking for.

somebody has a BT ODBII connector that sends data from the ECU to WinMo and iPhones. i would be curious to see if they have anything for android.

if the driver support (BT data transfer) exists, someone could develop an app that overlays information from the ECU to the camera and records it as one file.

640k, got that thing tuned yet?

I wouldn't bother with datalogging from OBD-II. The sample rate is too slow and it doesn't give you enough info to be useful.

The CAN BUS ODB-II ECU readings provide enough sample rate to give you an accurate rendering for tuning for all major components. If you're on the road, and you get a boost spike or a fuel lean, you're going to notice it whether it comes from the ECU or a direct monitor, in the same amount of time.

Besides, my post wasn't in reference to datalogging, it was in response to m00m00w4t3r's comment about seeing the speedo, etc.

Crappy video I made with my DROID in my truck last night. Quite bouncy. I have since secured the dock a little better, plus moved it out of camera view. I'll try again tonight on my way home.

Here is my first video from my Droid. thanks for the idea to modify the car dock to let the camera be used.

Just got my car dock tonight and modified it for shooting video while driving.

Another Subaru owner - 2005 WRX, with a rally-x this weekend, hopefully I'll post up some videos of some of the runs!

Drilled it up a little high, but it still feels sturdy and there is no interference with the lens.

Looking forward to seeing that! I would love to get a WRX. I think it is easily the best car in its class, and probably better than several classes above it as well.

Yeah, I'm pumped. Just got new snow tires put on, so I'm ready to roll. You should look into getting one. Used older ones are relatively cheap these days.

It's a cool set up, now I just wish I had something interesting to shoot. My boring commute to work won't cut it.

Although we had about an inch and a half of the slickest snow I have seen in a while this morning. My current truck doesn't do as well to play in the snow as my last truck did. 2wd with an open diff doesn't cut loose as well, nor hook up as fast.

I usually put the droid in the dock though if I am going to be driving for more than 10 minutes. It works really well on speaker phone too that way. Even though the speaker is covered and pointed to wards the windshield.

In my video, you can see some glitching in the picture. I don't see that in the videos you guys posted. Do I have some setting wrong?
