Issues manually deodexing my X

So I decided to manually deodex my x.
- unfrooze all apps
- rebooted
- reboot into clockwork and made backup
- followed these instructions http://androidforums.com/droid-x-all-things-root/158274-how-manually-deodex-your-phone.html

Went smooth until I ran option 4 and came up with file not found- reran option 4 and it completed.

When I got to step 9 in the process I couldn't get the cp line to work- file not found. Was this because I was still in usb mass storage still?

Further down in the instructions is a post to mount the sd card via clockwork and then adb shell the cp commands. It worked. Unmounted the sd card and system then rebooted and got to M and stuck.

Removed battery and booted to clockwork- tried reboot 1 more time and same issue.

Restored and back to where I was.

Where did I go wrong?

Droid x stock 2.2 ( not ota updated)
Rooted

Another option is to go to TBH's 2.3.15 deodexed, this way you have a nice base to backup to in case something goes wrong later on.

Team Black Hat is a paid app on the market.

i used this method and it worked great...jump to post #9.

[Completed] Deodex OTA 2.2 - xda-developers

you can also use 928's deodexeeer file that will deodex for you within the zip and you get a nice theme also. hope this helps

Tatuud- thanks for the reply- them steps are exactly what was in the process I followed except they are giving u the deodexed files to start...

you're very welcome, glad it helped.

I haven't gotten back home to try anything yet. I am going to try the method I did again- I think my major mess up was not changing the usb connection back to charge before opening adb shell...

If it doesn't work I will probably try what u posted

for those that are following this -

Thanks to all that posted - I did rerun the method I tried at first- was able to run through all 4 options with no error - after I copied the 2 files to the sdcard - you need to change usb connection back to charge only. then it worked.

I AM DEODEXED !!!!!

Awesome. You can theme. Careful with roms. That is the step I haven't taken (yet). So far I just haven't gotten bored or sick of the stock rom....

glad it all worked out. i just sbf'd, re-rooted, deodexed last night and reloaded Apex v1...i can tell you there is a significant difference in performance between stock rooted and a custom rom...phone is just way faster.

I am not sure on a rom just yet. Going to get a backup of where I am now. Phone seems more responsive- now to turn off some of the bloatware. Keep taking small steps with changing things...

Thanks again for the replies!

if you're going to stay stock and don't want the bloat and don't want to change extensions or delete files i would suggest getting titanium backup and freezing all of the apps you don't want. it will even remove them from your app drawer. if and when you want them back then just unfreeze them. and definitely no rush on roms but as long as you have your backup you can always go back if you don't like the rom. i was the same way till i tried my first one. now i have tried them all and found the one i like and pretty much stuck with that one. good luck which ever way you go.

I have titanium backup - but have just been using root explorer to rename the files to .bak - reboot and they are gone from the drawer.

I am sure once I try a rom its like being in a candy store ....

Yes, baby steps are good. Ive read hundred's of hours. A lot of those hours before I decided to make a move. This is why I still haven't experienced the pleasure of SBF'ing yet, knock on wood. Negative part of that is I don't know how to do it.

Good luck and backups are your best friends.

baby step are good but having that full sbf is a great security blanket. i did it last night just to do it and see if i could. it's really quite easy and nothing much to it, just plug in your phone let rsd see it, click on the sbf file and let it do its thing. phone comes literally just like day one. very nice security blanket

I do the same as chkmate - read and read and read more. Usually find 10 different ways to do the same thing - compare them all and see what i feel most comfortable with. Then go for it.

I do have the full sbf file and have not yet had to use it..... It is a nice security blanket to have.

So far only 1 time did I do something and it wouldn't boot. Backup through clockwork fixed it. learned then to make backup right before trying something..... lost a few days data.

So far the only weird thing after deodexing was angry birds was not in the drawer but was still shortcut on my desktop - but it wouldn't load. had to delete, uninstall - reinstall and START OVER !! :icon_evil:
