So is it the majoritys opinion that THIS PHONE is where the dev support will be? Thats really all i give a hoot about.

from what im hearing it seems to be! ive been talking to @layherdaddy(slayher) and he will be the one working on cyanogen for the bolt. he is currently trying to round up money to get this device. so if any of you guys can help him, find him on twitter and send him a donation! This device should see a ton of developer love!

Hi all, I watched House tonight and saw 3 Tbolt commercials during it's hour run time. The first was the counting ad, then the 2nd (rooftop) ad, then the counting one again. All had coming soon at the end of them.

Even though they don't have a date, I'm thinking 24th (or maybe 28th) sounds good. That was just one hour long show, and many are reporting seeing it on ESPN, CBS, ABC, FOX, etc. Seeing that it's been on all 3 networks plus cable, it points to them wanting to build a buzz with people outside of the tech blog forums. The only thing that makes me not think the 28th is it's a Monday. The only time they have even done anything remotely like a Monday release was the Incredible but that was for preorder with it being released 10 days later on a Thursday. So if not the 24th, I'd bet on March 3rd. Just my opinion.

just need to ask:

whats the big deal with dev support, rooting, etc? I've rooted my inc, really no difference at all. I use my fone to check e-mail, browse the web, watch movies and tv shows, text, games...I mean, if u root you can make it a little faster and change up some themes....whats really all the fuss about i dont get it.

I mean, I want the Tb for the bigger screen and 4g. other than that, there is really no difference b/w that and the incredible or droid x

Well, i know on the Atrix they don't allow you to install any out-of-market apps at all so that's something. Overclocking can be nice and you can get software updates and radio updates faster than HTC gets them out (although HTC's faster than most). It's whatever you or other devs make of it though. For most people it probably doesn't mean much.

I talked with an owner of a few verizon stores tonight and he said that as of now the phone will be released the 28th. My guess is it will be announced the 24th, but on the bright side is he's setting one aside for me :)

I'll agree with the announcement on the 24th...hands on the 3rd.

Thinking about it now I think the tv ads are doing three things, buying time for the iphone return date deadline, informing the general public, and acting as a form of damage control for VZW to all those that have been wondering where this phone went since BB started taking pre-orders.

Announcing the official date on the 24th gets them out of the return window and gives them more than enough time to still get it out Q1.

I think you'll find that a lot of Android users on Verizon were just waiting for the iPhone to show up on their network because AT&T coverage was not for them -- do you really think Android is that popular with the average smartphone user?

Verizon iPhone Sales Likely Performing Well

Verizon iPhone 5 release date causes "poor" Apple sales? - Computerworld Blogs

I know that to most of you, it's ridiculous to think that the iPhone would be preferable to the Thunderbolt. But the majority of people want an iPhone and LTE doesn't matter so much to them right now especially when they all know iPhone 5 is coming out this year.

Sales of the Thunderbolt will be a smidgen of what Vz's iPhones were, even now.

Most people are idiots. So?

People look for an anouncement either tomorrow or Wednesday with the release on thursday. It is still on track for the release on the 24th. Lets not add to the rumor mill and no flaming until the 24th comes and goes. If no phone then complain what not. But I have a feeling you all will be pleasantly surprised.

No one know when this phone will be released - Verizon is hiding their cards on this one and despite what evidence there may be, it's not definite. The phone is out there - yes, definitely, and it's ready to release. But Verizon isn't releasing it and it's because of the iPhone. They don't care about the Thunderbolt. And they will market it along with LTE, heavily, once the iPhone fervor dies down. Verizon doesn't know when that will be, and they're not making any announcements until it does.

If nothing I'm saying is making sense, then please, continue clinging to false hope.

I definitely agree with you here, both on the iPhone not being quite as much of a groundbreaker as Vz hoped - and on their 4G network being their big differentiator. The thing is, people care more about the iPhone then they do about the data speed right now - so they will likely wait and jump ship once the iPhone 5 is released on LTE. Verizon knows this just as well as they know they're probably not going to win anyone over to their network just for a Thunderbolt. It's an enthusiast phone and it's not winning people over like the iPhone will.

I have to ask. Is the iPhone a "fervor" or is it not "as much of a groundbreaker" OR do "people care more about the iPhone then they do about the data speed right now"

Would you be willing to give us a little clarity on what appear to be wildly contradictory statements?

As an innocent b ystander to this thread (yes the drama pulled me in).. can someone tell me what the big deal is about the TB? I'm not being negative, I am simply asking. Maybe I am uninformed but.. i am pretty sure the Bionic is right around the corner and it slams this phone in every way possible YET.. no one cares about that phone... its all about the TB. why?

In every way? There's processor and...oh wait. The tb even has more ram.

The selling point is the unlocked bootloader(made the OG droid what it is today) and the massive rom/kernel support that will follow. And sense is far better than blur, imo.

I thought the TB was a 1ghz single core processor while the Bionic was a dual core 1ghz x2 processor? That would make it better (faster once apps take advantage) right? Im with you on the unlocked bootloader though. But.. with all things headed towards dual core, quad core, etc.... wouldnt the TB become obsolete fairly fast? I mean, i nkow it has the LTE advantage that no other phone out has but, thats going to change fairly soon yes?

According to reviewers the TB beat the Bionic in 2 benchmarks and is supposed to be the fastest phone on Verizon. Im thinking part of that COULD be because the Bionic wasn't optimized, but I guess it won't be known till it's officially released. Likely though because the TB has an unlocked bootloader, and can be overclocked it may still hold true.. the only thing I don't like besides there being no HDMI out is that the gaming scores at least in the wirefly video were lower than the Droid X..

I have recently lost patience and purchased the inspire 4g.I must say this phone is skick as butter, and its good ATT finally has a good Android device. But the external speaker is to.y sounding, the reception is still bad at my work, and ATT has blocked sidelong of apps completely. I did find a quick fix, by taking out the sin card, but swype beta is blocked nonetheless. Seeing all the walls ATT put around this phone I will unfortunately be returning it by the end of the week. Oh yeah, it says 'HSPA+" in the signal indicator, even though my area still does not have it yet. Very deceptive... With that being said, and my old iphone on the way to gazelle, I'm now stuck with my old Nokia while I wait impatiently for the tb to be released so I can finally join VZW.
