just need to ask:

whats the big deal with dev support, rooting, etc? I've rooted my inc, really no difference at all. I use my fone to check e-mail, browse the web, watch movies and tv shows, text, games...I mean, if u root you can make it a little faster and change up some themes....whats really all the fuss about i dont get it.

I mean, I want the Tb for the bigger screen and 4g. other than that, there is really no difference b/w that and the incredible or droid x

I hear you a bit on the developers comment, I really don't like the idea of someone injecting something into my phone/device, I stay away from warez, buy softwares I use, unless they're just official but free, and try to make sure my devices are not prone to being susceptible to intruders. Specs wise though I think the speed on the TB will kick the crap out of my beloved Droid X as far as performance, everyday usage at very least. I'm looking forward to having less or little to no lag while swiping from one page to another, bringing up apps etc. The only thing I don't know about is how much lesser it can handle gaming than the DX.

Yea, I'm always a bit uneasy about making my phone vulnerable by rooting it and installing roms - and I agree, the TB will def outperform any phone out. Hopefully the 24th will be the day!!

Btw I went to Best Buy today after I had a tooth drilled by a dentist, and the rep, who actually sounded more like a manager, at the store said the release date for the TB was the 28th...:/ BUT if someone's reporting that a store got a live phone for testing I'm thinking that's a REALLY good sign it will come out on the 24th. I've been noticing that they've been closing the amount of time between when the reps get a device in hand and the release date, to being within a few days.

People look for an anouncement either tomorrow or Wednesday with the release on thursday. It is still on track for the release on the 24th. Lets not add to the rumor mill and no flaming until the 24th comes and goes. If no phone then complain what not. But I have a feeling you all will be pleasantly surprised.

Well i can confirm that the phones were not shipped to my store this week. They were originally ordered for this week but Verizon did not ship them. Id expect next week or March some time.

Phone was on some Nickolodeon show which means release soon

I was watching some show on Nickolodeon with my kids of course and some kid on the show used what appeared to be thunderbolt to contact his girlfriend. And his model had skype. So that definitely means that release will be soon, right? Or maybe I'm just seeing things.

I don't think Zoom and TB will be released on same date so hopefully sometime next week before I see Spongebob calling Patrick with it.

the dev community is the main reason I still have and enjoy my og D1... they make it possible to keep this old device fresh
the "big deal" with dev support is exactly that for me at least.. i cant speak on behalf of the other super users but that is one of the main reasons i want the TB.. i believe the dev community will be huge for this phone which means while it only has one core i believe this phone will be able to hang through 2 years without much of a problem like my D1

as for the comment about making it a little faster... i have two other friends that have the D1 and both of them know nothing about rooting/hacking/overclocking... they both run their D1s completely stock and they hate it so much because of how slow it runs... they have nothing but complaints and how they are going to go with the iphone as soon as their contract is over... then they play with my phone and cant believe how smooth, fast, clean, and responsive my D1 is

i dont know about the inc since i dont own one but my rooted D1 is a beast and its all thanks to the developers

good friend of mine whose the manager of the cellphone department at walmart told me that his store was to receive a shipment of the TB's either tomorrow or wed and there was an email telling the employee's not to sell until the 24th. I told him to keep me informed!

Well that's interesting considering Best buy is supposedly the exclusive third party retailer for the Thunderbolt.
Regardless keep us in the loop.

In my case I really wanted to be able to use openvpn which required my Droid to be rooted. A nice side effect was the wifi hotspot. Later I found a quirk in the way the wifi got along with one of my routers and was able to correct it due to having root. Oh, and as a bonus my Droid which shipped with a 550mhz cpu is happily running at 1000mhz now.

Imho these things arn't "phones ", they're pocket computers and as such it makes sense to retain as much control and flexibility as possible.

I was just in a Verizon store today and they said next Thursday, the 3rd. They said that still wasn't set in stone.
