Only in 4g LTE areas...Hi Troops,
I'm a lurker so If I screw up be gentle. just got off the phone to Best Buy. The rep said that the TB will be on sale Feb 24th:icon_ banana: but they are taking pre-orders. The Buy-Back program will end on Feb. 26th. I also reinforced the deal breaker? for me - No talk and surf on any CDMA phone! :icon_ cry:
This phone will be capable of 'talk and surf'; the first VZW phone to do so.

Just called my local Verizon store. Sales rep said no talk and surf on the TB. When I asked if she was *sure* she said "...let me check." When she returned she replied "We don't have that information yet." She also informed me that she had no info on the exact release date. So it seem that Best Buy is the best bet for the 24th.
Are you guys *SURE* the the TB will talk and surf? Can you head me in the right direction for verification? All the info I have indicates that talk and surf is not possible on CDMA networks. The VZ iPhone 4 is an example.

So I just called my local BB in Pittsburgh and they said the phone definitely got pushed back to Feb. 28th so that they could add something to it which is a "surprise". He sounded so excited. My guess is that it's just skype support.
First of all, I don't believe that the BB employee knows anything more than you or I do about why it's delayed.
However, it does sound like they are trying to make some last-minute changes/additions to the software before its released. I don't think it's a hardware issue since they already shipped the phones from tiawan. I know I read somewhere that the phones won't come pre-loaded with skype but will rather have an icon on the home screen that will allow you to download it or it will tell you it's not available yet. I think they want to avoid not having skype on launch day and that could be a reason for the delay.
Another thought I had was that they are trying to add VoLTE to the phone. Does anyone know if that is a software update or if that requires special hardware? They've been making a big stink about that technology lately.
Sorry to just be speculating here, but I feel like that's all we can do until we get an announcement from vzw.

I believe it is a hardware thing, plus they aren't going to implement that until next year. My only guess is maybe the Skype thing.

There was just a video on the thread a few pages back (this morning?) where the guy demo'd calling the airport weather broadcast while surfing at the same time on the TB.

According to an insider the release of the much anticipated Thunderbolt will be Thursday, February 24, 2011. I hope this is correct and all the hoopla about this new droid is true because otherwise I will purchase the AT&T iPhone even though I have been a loyal customer of VZW for 10 yrs & $34,000 in bills. I hope this does not happen, i'll even purchase an extended battery or purchase a spare if this phone is credited to be a revolutionary item.

Why would you get an AT&T iPhone? It's universally acknowledged to drop tons and tons of calls. Verizon iPhone is clearly better, maybe you should either pick it up, or hold out for the iPhone 5.

Just saw the Thunderbolt commercial on TV. The one that is on the Verizon website with the coming soon ending. I am getting excited for this phone to come out!

I saw it last night on CBS during the Big Bang Theory tv show. Still said "coming soon" at the end.
The TB will not be using the CMDA but rather the LTE in major metropolitan area such as NYC, Miami, Boston Atlanta etc...check your local VZW or go on line for furhter coverage area. That being said the TB will be able ro talk & surf like the iPhone from AT&T but on 4G...look out iPhone user there is a new competition.
I'm gonna be pretty pissed if I find out the data price is gonna be different (or we won't be grandfathered in if they raise it) cause then all this waiting would be for not and I could have had my new phone 3 weeks ago
I think we will be locked into the 3G data as long as
we purchase the phone before price increases.
Had a friend with Verizon who purchase an HTC with wifi before Verizon started charging for wifi in their data plan.
He hadee wifi for as long as he had that particular phone.

hahahaha you're funny. VZW doesn't charge for wifi access on their plans. that'd be dumb.
