Hopefully there isn't a backorder online. The backorder of Xs last august is what led me to get a D2. Really hope I get it right away if I order right when it goes up.

maybe they are trying to do what nintendo, xbox and sony do with their gaming consoles? Trying to drive up demand and get people to wait all night for a phone. Just over a year ago we had people waiting in line all night for a nintendo wii. Now we have tons sitting on the shelf.

Just to throw some gasoline on the fire....What if there's a huge shortage because VZW anticipated a lot more people getting the IPhone?:icon_evil:

Anybody else see how fugly the Moto X2 looks? Practically the same design still, camera hump, hard buttons, hard edges. Dual core will not save it. And why are they releasing that and the Bionic so near each other? They seem very similar spec-wise.

A better question: why is the 3G phone better than the 4G one (at least hardware wise)? 1gb ram vs 512mb. Better screen too I think. Maybe this s Verizon's economic strategy? Charge the same for 4G but make 4G phones more expensive and crappier? I'm perfectly happy and will get the Thunderbolt but $250 is a lot for a phone. Also if Atrix can launch in March why does Bionic have to wait until the summer and have worse specs and probably cost more?

The main differences I saw were RAM and 3G vs. 4G. I'm guessing that the 1gig of RAM on the X2 is DDR, while the 512gig of RAM on the Bionic is DDR2 (reads/writes twice as fast). The screen resolution is the same (both qHD). Bionic actually has equal or better specs than Atrix on everything except for RAM, but the extra RAM on the Atrix is rumored to be dedicated to the docking functionality (not confirmed).

The time difference in release is because since VZW gets the iPhone now, AT&T needed a powerhouse Android phone to offset its losses soon and compete with VZW in that market (lots of behind the scenes maneuvering going on between Moto, Apple, AT&T, and VZW). AT&T has been riding the iPhone wave, which is ending now, so it needs to step up its Android offerings. Also, it is better for the Bionic to come out after the Atrix, because hopefully this will mean that it's software will be more refined (which it definitely needs judging by videos we've seen so far).

no, but please post a link so I can.

kthx

Those of you waiting for the HTC Merge should be happy. Also, the retail price according to this document is $615 for the HTC Droid Thunderbolt.

gonna be signing off here, to those that are gonna go to BB tomorrow morning, good luck, I hope you get it, but don't be pissed off at Vzn when when(if) you don't

Found this:
Thunderbolt will be released February 24th, 2011

New Verizon Phones - New Cell Phones

Sorry is this has already been posted.

We haven't seen that site yet, but it does not look very legit. All that guy did was read the article on Boy Genius Report and repost the date BGR reported getting from its insiders. Websites like that are not to be trusted. If anything legit is found out, it will be posted first on Droid Life, Android Central, Phandroid, BGR, Engadget, etc.

Can somebody that knows phone tech well answer a question I have bout the Thunderbolt? This might be dumb, but why do they have two model numbers listed on the HTC website for the chipset in the Thunderbolt? I know its single core - but all other single core phones only have one chipset model number.

This is what it says for thunderbolt:
Chipset: Qualcomm® MSM8655, 1GHz, Qualcomm MDM9600

I dont get it?

What document? Link?

And I thought the TB was not going to be a "Droid" branded phone. Maybe they decided they needed the marketing boost? Not really sure what makes a phone a Droid besides paying LucasArts extra to license the name.
