I'm in the same boat as you so I know what you are talking about. Verizon does still do 1 year contracts. The reason you, and me as well, can't see the 1 year option online is because the current contract is not up. You can't sign a 1 year contract until your 2 year contract is up. It may be 20 months instead of the 24 months, I'm not sure exactly but that is the reason. The 2 year upgrade works after 13 months only at Verizon and not Best Buy. Unless you plan on spending full retail, you will have to wait and buy it through Verizon.

I have no problem with buying from VZW rather than BB. If I'm following you, you're saying that opting for our early upgrade leaves us only able to do a new two year contract. If I want a one-year contract, I have to wait for my 20 months in July? Yuck! Not good.

Yep you got it. Sucks sometimes but from a business standpoint it makes sense. I was thinking about 1 year too but I think I'll be happy enough with the TB to wait 20 months after buying it. If not, and I'm wanting new after say 14, then I'll just have to pay the 210 or so it would be to terminate the contract.

so if im doing an EARLY upgrade on a 2 year cvontract in a verizon store i cant get a 1 yr contract???

I believe it possible for Best Buy to have the phone and Verizon not for a few days. Best Buy has the Nexus S and T-Mobile does not.

Exactly Russ. Think about it. We'll use me as an example. I got the OG Droid in November of 2009 and signed a 2 year contract. They give you the phone at a discount because they will be making money off of you for 24 months, planned anyway. After 13 months Verizon lets me upgrade if I sign a 2 year contract. I can't sign a new 1 year contract, since basically I still have 1 contract year remaining. Me, I'm at month 15. So I have 9 months until the end of 24 months. I'm 99.999% sure on this. You can always call Verizon or wait for someone else to chime in but its only logical. Its just like the NFL. You can't sign a 1 year contract, when you have 1 contract year left. You can only do extensions. NFL, if you sign a 1 year extension, that means you have 2 contract years left. Best analogy I can come up with haha.

Honestly are you trying to compare t-mobile to verizon?

Nope just thought I would point out that you can't but the Nexus S from the service provider but you can from Best Buy. And it's not like the Nexus S is a second rate phone.

Best Buy - 2/17, 2/20, or 2/24. Those that were told 2/14, the employees probably have some wishful thinking or have not been informed of the delay yet. Even if Best Buy has it in stock and tries to sell it to you tomorrow, what makes you think Verizon will let you activate the phone early on it's network?
VZW - 2/24

Now on an interesting side note, remember the Merge from back in November (800MHz slider, like G2, highly overclockable)? Remember how it got shelved by VZW at the end of last year? Remember how we saw it resurface supposedly coming out on Alltell? Well, check this out, maybe it is still coming to VZW after all...

I stopped by BB tonight (Minneapolis) and spoke with the mobile manager. He told me the delay is because of inventory issues. He said they only had enough for something like one per store, which is why they had to push it back.

If that's the case, I'm sure glad I pre-ordered mine early. You are the second person who has come in here and said they got news of a shortage. Maybe they will have to ramp up (or restart) manufacturing...

Anybody else see how fugly the Moto X2 looks? Practically the same design still, camera hump, hard buttons, hard edges. Dual core will not save it. And why are they releasing that and the Bionic so near each other? They seem very similar spec-wise.

A better question: why is the 3G phone better than the 4G one (at least hardware wise)? 1gb ram vs 512mb. Better screen too I think. Maybe this s Verizon's economic strategy? Charge the same for 4G but make 4G phones more expensive and crappier? I'm perfectly happy and will get the Thunderbolt but $250 is a lot for a phone. Also if Atrix can launch in March why does Bionic have to wait until the summer and have worse specs and probably cost more?

Yea, that is seeming like the smart thing to do. I will pre-order mine this week.
