HTC Thunderbolt Release Date

With the ho-hum specs of the TB, each day its delayed is another day closer to EOL....

Seriously folks, with those specs, why is there so much interest here? 4g? HTC Sense? I'm curious why more people aren't waiting for a true next-gen phone with all of their dual-core goodness?

I think when iPhone 5 and Bionic are out, the TB becomes an Eris.
So, you'll have 3 months before obsolesence.

So - we've already established that this phone will be top of the line when released. They are not "last-year's specs" as some dual-core proponents like to claim. You say ho-hum ONLY because it does not have a dual core processor. I am not interested in the first generation of dual core phones, it is a technology in its infancy that will have to have a lot of tweaking and bugs worked out, especially software-wise, and some time for it to develop. I will have a new awesome phone this month, while you are still waiting until the summer for your precious Bionic. Then when it finally comes out, there will be rumors of something new around the corner (just like always with smartphones). Then in a year I will upgrade with the free buy-back program to a new second generation dual core processor phone, while you will be stuck with your (now old) tech. Not to mention, the whole time I will be rooted and free to customize, while you will be locked down.

P.S. I would not buy an iPhone, even if the iPhone 6 came out tomorrow. This is an Android site.

Just got this a minute ago. No street date but?

It's really hard to read that, but if you are referring to the "in-stock" date of 2/14, that is old and has been around for awhile. Also, that does not mean it will go on sale that day, just that it is possible that they will start receiving shipments tomorrow.

VZW has not completely done away with one year contracts, have they? Though my contract and NE2 are not due until July, I know that I am eligible for the annual early upgrade. So when I shop for phones on the VZW site, I can see my two-year contract discounted prices. However there is a drop down to select "Pricing for" but it can only be "2-year contract". There is no option for 1-year like there should be. Anyone else?

I've read that BB cannot do the early upgrade or one-year contracts but now I am wondering about if VZW can do a one-year deal. I have seen folk report estimated prices for the TB of $250 2-year and like $329 with a 1-year contract and was thinking 1-year was the way to go to give flexibility for a dual-core design in 2012.

I'm in the same boat as you so I know what you are talking about. Verizon does still do 1 year contracts. The reason you, and me as well, can't see the 1 year option online is because the current contract is not up. You can't sign a 1 year contract until your 2 year contract is up. It may be 20 months instead of the 24 months, I'm not sure exactly but that is the reason. The 2 year upgrade works after 13 months only at Verizon and not Best Buy. Unless you plan on spending full retail, you will have to wait and buy it through Verizon.

I have no problem with buying from VZW rather than BB. If I'm following you, you're saying that opting for our early upgrade leaves us only able to do a new two year contract. If I want a one-year contract, I have to wait for my 20 months in July? Yuck! Not good.

What you should have done is gotten names of people who told you you could pick it up the 14th.

You go in and they say sorry it was pushed back you go: "well jane, jim, and bob each told me I could pick it up and I was never notified otherwise."

"Now what case, screen protector, car charger are you going to give me?"

After calling yesterday evening and confirming that it would be available for pickup tomorrow morning I called again tonight to make sure and now I'm told they got an employee newsletter today saying it is TBA and they didn't receive shipments today. The guy told me they are simply waiting on verizon to ship them the phones. Can't believe they got the memo this late...I haven't even switched to verizon yet and they're already pissing me off
