HTC Thunderbolt Release Date

Best Buy confirmed it's the 24th for certain, and the other thing they noted was that data will stay at $20 for 4G.

Been calling 611 a lot to. Just did it again and got Susan. Told me there was no release date or launch date as of now.

I have 3 BB within 15 miles of me.
I called the closest. They are still taking pre-order. They said originally it was the 14th, now it is pushed back to the 24th. I asked if they had any on hand at the store...and he said as of this minute, no.
Now, I went to my Wireless Zone (who supplies my company with all their VZW phones)

I asked them...
He said it's launching on March 24. I asked him if he were sure it was March 24th not February 24, and he said yes. WZ is one of the 4 largest VZW exclusive retailers and they're all launching on the same date.

I just had to laugh....

I'm calling my 3 local BBs on Monday, to see if anyone has any.
Then I'll be waiting like everyone else...

Couple of days ago somebody from VZ with a higher position than a corporate store manager told me that they have the iPhone coming in a few days and soon after the Bionic will launch , so I asked if he wasn't confusing that with the TB and he said no ,because that won't be out till June ) . I won't trust just about anybody who works or has a connection with VZ , some of the important people over there have no idea what they are talking about .

Iv read so many different things all over about the TB. One place I read said it still will not be faster then the fascinate... This can't be true?

who ever said that is crazy, isnt the facinate still stuck on 2.1? that is laughable.. did you watch the video comparison a page or 2 back? Look at the quadrant or bench test, only thing the galaxy phones have is gaming that looks to be better..

No I didn't see the vid and yes I'm stuck on 2.1 the leak is out but I really don't want to root and I want a ffc for skype..I don't really play games so I don't care about that..

Ok, we get it dude, you are super impatient. You have mentioned this a dozen times now. Go ahead and pull the trigger, more TBs for the rest of us. You will be very mad though. I say wait until the 24th before doing anything. I've waited 4 months, you can wait 12 days.

You guys who are pre-ordering the TB: How do you know it's any good? I've only seen some shaky, noisy CES videos. Are there any in-depth reviews of the phone somewhere?

Are you kidding me? Do some homework on the specs compared to other phones. When released, this phone will be the most top of the line available on the market. The only area it gets beat by others phones is the gaming graphics area (and battery life, I suppose).

I am a bit nervous about the screen. Holding an EVO next to an incredible the difference is VERY noticable.

What are you nervous about, the size or the quality? The EVO and Incredible have LCD screens, the TB has an SLCD screen (newer, upgraded, better). If it's size you are worried about, bigger is better these days, unless you are really worried about pocketability.

Not sure if this is news worthy but the TB is back on amazon...

With this and the Wirely announcement that they will have the phone for sale on release day (whenever that is) makes me think that the Best Buy "national retail exclusive" only applies to brick and mortar stores, not online stores.

One of my friends that also preoreder the gnome said she went into bb last night and they had all the bolt accessories out and set up, so if they aren't getting the phone Monday that would be kind of dumb to set all that up.

This is a very good sign.

Absolutely not. The TB has the highest quadrant scores of any phone ever (only the MyTouch4G even comes close to touching it, and I'm not counting the future dual core phones in this statement, watch the TB vs. EVO video somebody else posted in here). The only way the Fascinate might be better than the TB is in the gaming graphics arena because Galaxy S phones have a separate graphics card.


So let me repeat my theory from last night. If that Best Buy advertisement we saw on Droid Life does turn out be the same one that comes out on Sunday 2/20, the TB will have to be on sale on that date (or before) at Best Buy because it does not say "coming soon" or "pre-order." Will Verizon get it the same day as Best Buy? Who knows. Maybe Verizon will actually wait until 2/24 to let the iPhone hype and return window blow over (ie. anyone who pre-ordered the iPhone or bought it the first day will be out of luck if they want to exchange it at VZW). But I'm betting that if certain Best Buys have them in stock they are going to start selling them instead of letting the phones and accessories just take up space back in storage. I'm also willing to bet that different Best Buys will start selling them on different dates, as they get the devices shipped to them. That would explain the varying range of answers people have been getting from different branches. Like blackmanx said, Best Buy is probably not supposed to sell them before VZW, but sometimes they do even though it is frowned upon by VZW.

I'm fine with a February 24th release date. My birthday is the 20th. Picking up a 26" Samsung LCD TV for my dorm room. Then a few days later I'll be ordering my TB

He isn't a rep , didn't quite get it but he is a supervisor or something at their offices . And I didn't called in , I meet the guy in some other circumstances . Anyway , the idea is that some people working for VZ , even if they have an important position still have no idea about some things .

What about the resolution of the Thunderbolt though? Upcoming phones will be 960X540 instead of 800x480. Does anyone know how big of a difference this will be?

Also, who decides when Best Buy gets the phone? HTC or Verizon? If its Verizon then we have to wait till the 24th but if it's HTC then maybe the 14th is possible for pre-orderers. Whatever. I can wait.

So I know I already broke the rooting news to you guys last night/this morning, but here is a slight caveat:

Thunderbolt gets root and NAND access | Android Central

The phone they rooted was a pre-production model. Thus, it is at least possible that there were software alterations made that might change the process a little bit. But then again, maybe not. Either way, we will see a lot of developer action on this phone very soon after its release. I'm so excited!

iPhone 4: Tuesday

Maybe we'll see an announcement this week either the 15th or 16th?
