no clockwork mod for droidX?

what about it? want me to post a guide? you can use it on the DX..

would be very cool... but i guess its pretty useless without being rooted, right? and no "easyroot" for the droidx is there?

need to be rooted to get CW. and i do not recommend easyroot (idk if its for the DX) ill try to get one up in the next few days. theres a few on DroidXforums.com if you need one now

they figured out a way to block the 2.2 from your phone if you have the leaked one but you can get back to 2.1 to get it

and no, you can get 2.2 if youre rooted. just lose root

???

I'm trying to figure out what I missed here.....

I followed all the steps...
when I see the "#" this means I'm rooted....cool
then I do the cp commands for SU and Busybox...cool
I do the "rm /system/bin/rootshell" command and still see a "#"....cool
NOW when I run "exit" I get a "$" again, then I run "exit" again and see the "c:\android\DroidXRoot>"
so I run the "adb shell" command and see a "$".....(?)
I run "su" and get a "Permission Denied"

....NEVERMIND....
Been up too long....lol...I'm good now! I saw what I missed and corrected it.

Ok, so use the rename technique, then I will have to rename them back upon notification of the OTA, correct?

that is correct

whoa... we have to go back to pure stock 2.1 to get the update? as in rename everything etc. or do we just need to unroot (assuming you have 2.1)?

need to put back all stock apps (n back to .apk and install with correct permissions) or the update wont work.

Do you recommend i do any backup before following this method?

If so can you tell me which program to use?

if you root properly, its not gonna change anything about your apps/settings.

I ran though all the commands above and tried to confirm, kept getting permission denied. So I looked through my commands and noticed I missed the following commands:

Run "chmod 4755 /system/bin/su"
Run "chmod 4755 /system/bin/busybox"

Can I just go through everything again? Will that hurt anything?

DISREGARD the above I just went through everything again and completed the process. Thanks for the guide, pretty simple if you don't forget some of the steps.

Those were some decent instructions. I was a little confused at first, when downloading and running adb, but luckily I know DOS and a little Unix. I appreciate the help with the thread.

  1. Run "CD c:\DroidXRoot" (or where ever you expanded the archive)
  2. Run "adb push Superuser.apk /sdcard/Superuser.apk"
  3. Run "adb push su /sdcard/su"
  4. Run "adb push busybox /sdcard/busybox"
  5. Run "adb push exploid /sqlite_stmt_journals/exploid"
Thats as far as I can get and it says
failed to copy 'exploid' to '/sqlite_stmt__journals/exploid': no such files or directory

But I see it in the folder
I am on the official 2.2 Droid X and running windows vista
please help

After following these instructions and successfully rooting the Droid X, will you have the program "DroidTether for Root Users"? This app was a part of the root of the D1, and I wanted to know if this program is available FREE if I were to root my DX.

As everyone knows, the DX comes with the 3G Mobile Hotspot capability, but of course Verizon wants to charge for the use of that service, so therefore, this is why I am asked if I can root my DX and have the DroidTether for Root Users that I had on my rooted D1.

Thanks.
