Google Earth GONE from the store...?

Any file explorer will work. If you don't like astro, try androzip. Or just download it from your phone then click it in downloads.

Just keep in mind installing this way, you will not get updates to the program, you'll have to uninstall and reinstall the updated version manually. Only way to get updates is by installing from the market.
From my point of view....I would rather rely on an Official sources. I know I am very new to this website and I am new to Android World. But I use a reliable sources. Yes, I used Astro because I have heard a lot of good and positive information on Astro. And I downloaded that application about 4 to 5 months ago. I love that application. But lately, I had an issues with Astro BEFORE I got an 2.1 update. Which prompt me to use my computer to manually install the 2.1 and I have no problem installing the 2.1 except viewing/looking for Google Earth in the Market. But I learned that it takes a while for the 2.1 versions applications to reach into the Market. For most of you guys...Google Earth may not be your favorite application... but Google Earth is part of my hobby. As for Androzip...I am not going to download it yet. Not unless I see good reviews on the Market. And be honest with yourself when giving reviews.

I did the manual 2.1 and was able to see google earth but I did not download it. After a day or so playing around with the updates, went back to the market and was unable to locate google earth, until tonight. I did a factory data reset I am now able to see google earth. Maybe factory reset was necessary and not just a system reboot after the update.

Well, I'll throw my hat into the ring after reading all 14 pages of this thread...

I was once rooted. When rooted and using Bugless Beast (the 2.1 builds of it), I downloaded Google Earth from the market and only played with it for a tiny bit. After doing a wipe for whatever reason, I never installed it again.

I've been running stock for a while now, and waited for the ota, which I just got a little over 2 hours ago.

No Google Earth in my market either, but I'm not concerned enough with it to reset everything else. Just thought I'd share my experience and put in my subscription so I'll know when/if it shows up without a reset, because it's fun to play with. Lol!

You guys are runnin' around like chickens with their heads cut off. Here's a link to the .apk

http://sites.google.com/site/droidlife10/home/google_earth.apk

Install: (you should know this by now)
Download ASTRO File Manager
Put the .apk onto your sdcard by plugging the phone into your computer, pulling down the notification bar and selecting "Mount"
Unmount phone
Open ASTRO and find the .apk you just put on your sdcard
Click it once and hit Open App Manager
Top-Left you should see an "Install" option.
Enjoy!

Yes, but by installing it manually, you will not get updates for it. You will be the "chicken running around" waiting for one of us to graciously post the lastest version :-)

Don't be "chicken" about a little factory data reset, you phone will love it, and if it solves the Earth and Picasa/Gallery sync, just think of what other things it may fix in the background that we aren't aware of yet!

If you recall there were lots of comments from the various phone manufacture's that upgrading to 2.1 might require a data reset, what we are seeing seems to back up those articles from a few months ago.

Nothing new to add, but wanted to chime in that a factory reset did the trick for me. Google Earth is now available in the Market... and it's currently installing.

I already have google earth, it's not in the market right now for me though. I want to do a factory reset, not just for google earth, but for possible bugs I don't know about at the moment. I really don't want to lose all of my stuff on HomerunBattle3D, that would suck. I just got everything back I lost, when I flashed the ese53 on my phone. I guess I'll do it when it's absolutely necessary.

ok, the application was here, but what's the reason for the market don't
show in 2.1 milestone's ?
agree!

Yeah ive scrolled down about 100 aps and cant find it. No update yet have stock 2.01

What I did find was the Google Earth Blog..which isnt the same of course.
If you still have the 2.01, you won't see the Google Earth. You'll have to have the 2.1.

I downloaded the apk here:

Google.Earth 1.0.apk

and then installed it manually. It works fine on my OTA 2.1

Wait folks.

Slow down. Is this only happening to new 2.1 updaters that are immediatly going to the market and not finding it?

Thats actually normal, as the market doesn't update according to your build.prop changes (because of 2.1) for a few hours.

Its been two days for me, still no sign of Earth in the Market. I was able to find the live wallpapers immediately when they weren't there before, so that's not the problem.

:( Ugghhh...

So.... after reading all 15 pages, I understand that this issue will be corrected by a factory reset (along with the Picasa link issue.... however I didn't have a problem with the Picasa link... just Google Earth not showing up in the Market).

I just spent 2 days setting up my Helix home screens just the way I like them. I have a lot of apps downloaded!

I don't even really care about loading Google Earth! I've had the .APK file for over a week on my laptop, but I won't install it because people say it's a space hog.

But now, I just want to do a factory reset just to make sure I shake out any bugs that might be fixed by a reset. Looks like another 2 or 3 days of backing up and restoring is in my near future! :( Ah well. :P

I'm in a similar bout. I use DXtop and have a bunch of apps but more importantly, I just don't feel like going through the hassle of back-ups, reset, re-install etc.
Is this the ONLY way? Or are we good waiting it out? Anyone?

I think we're good. As more than one person has stated, it says on the official site that Droid support is "coming soon." To me, that means I shouldn't be worried about this yet. If they don't have support for us, maybe it's not a big deal that it's not available for some of us.

I'm not redoing everything just to download something that I'll probably only ever just kinda play with, but others may have a valid reason to do so...

Downloading the apk and installing it manually took about 4 minutes, and it works fine. See the link above-

No Google Earth after OTA

Had same experience as others, did factory reset and sure enough, it's in the marketplace. Downloaded and running (after initial force close).

I"ve never rooted or installed any manual .apk's and its not in the market for me either... maybe its not supposed to be until it formally supports the droid.... hidden bugs etc...

oh well who cares..... google maps pretty much does the same thing doesn't it?.. you can view in satellite mode... whats the difference?.... almost seems like maps if more versatile since it can do more... like traffic etc.

They both work off the same engine for viewing the ground...... what am I missing here?

What all do you have to do to get everything back after the reset? I suspect you have to re-add your google account. Is that it? Do you need to re-activate the phone? Do you need to re-create all of your shortcuts? Are all of your preferences restored?
