froyo hangout thread all discussions welcomed

Why are you guys waiting for a gimped 2.2 when there's plenty of wonderful ROMs to install already! :-)

Because then we get custom ROM's built off the real thing instead of leaked early builds. ;)

Minor bug fixes. More optimized code etc. That's why we want it all so badly. ;)

i see your point. but my view is that the custom rom guys have already been months ahead of Froyo. i can only imagine what they'll be able to accomplish, in a relatively short time, now that the official version is out. i have a hunch that, come Labor Day, once people see what is happening with the custom roms they are going to be clamoring for the ability to root 2.2. that's why i'm going to wait it out - i don't want to get to the point where i want to root 2.2, and possibly not be able to, because of the bootloader.

Ok I asked in another thread that go locked. If my Droid isn't activated will I still be able to do the "official" OTA update via wifi or will I not get any kind of notification that it is even available.

i seriously doubt you will get it simply b/c the phone is not in the system with verizon. i could be wrong but this seems like a logical theory.

in other news, i have the official 2.2 forced onto my device and running smoothly. gotta say, it is really nice, and FAST. i also have FLASH beta3 on the device and working just fine, however even after setting the browser to desktop, i still cannot view HULU videos....the home page opens up, but as soon as i try watching a video (the office) it says the device is not supported. any idea whats going on?

Xscope

I am trying to install 2.2 I downloaded us xscope but I can't figure out how to move the download to the sd/root. Anybody know how?

You can install the update manually, but I don't think you'll receive it OTA on a non active Droid, even with WiFi.

Anyone receive the OTA update last night or this morning....or was lst night a quite night by Verizon just to make sure the "small" OTA went well???

The distribution is going to start out small. There may even be a day when there is no distribution. Expect to see everyone getting it by around the 6th, 7th and 8th. Full distribution should be finished or near finished by the 13th.

Ok, I did the manual 2.2 upgrade this morning. I also talked my aunt into doing it, which is cool because she works for VZW and usually isn't into anything "hacked".

So anyway, is there a list somewhere of all the changes? I have noticed some changes so far through normal use, but I would like to see a list of everything that changed, especially new things that I may not be utilizing.

I've had 2.2 on my Android for about a week now. All I did was search for the 2.2 update through google on my phone, found where it was posted on Phandroid, DL'd it (43mb-7 minutes) and followed the instructions. Basically, all I did was copy it to the root directory using Astro, then powered down and powered up while holding Power and the X key. When the exclamation point came up, I pressed volume down and the camera button and 4 options appeared. I chose the 2nd one down (upgrade) and it installed, restarted and I was good to go. It is very nice. Alot of little tweaks and runs great performance wise. Just search for the file and follow the instructions. Don't wait for verizon...
