froyo hangout thread all discussions welcomed

Hmm.. the update.zip won't be available for users who did the same with 2.1?

and I type this from my Droid.

Well, with the exception of Froyo the only way to root was to go back to 2.0.1 first. You could jump from 2.1 to the leaked rooted Froyo, but I'm not certain that if you download 2.2 from Verizon that you will be able to root. They would have to root that first.

I might be saying it wrong, but I don't want a rooted 2.2. I want the official one utilizing the update.zip method. Like I did for 2.1.
Thas called a manual update, correct?

Right, maybe I misunderstood you. I thought what you said was you wanted to get the stock 2.2 file and then you wanted to root.

We may have just gone around in a circle. :)

as an original 11/6 Droid owner, I can say the only Official OTA I ever received was in early December and the Android version didn't even change, I went from 2.0 to 2.0, I think that it just fixed a minor bug or two, everything else came by way of update.zip or a leak, I am not so concerned about the Official OTA 2.2 coming and unrooting my Droid

Heh all good.
:] I'll wait for the official one and for it to be rooted. No rush.
BTW, does anyone know how many more official OTAs the D1 is expected to receive?

This may be it for the Droid. Gingerbread won't work on Droid because the processor isn't large enough.

That's not to say they may not send something out in the form of an adjustment or something similar. But unless after gingerbread they come up with something, and I kind of doubt that will happen this may be the end.

I must be the only one here with a Droid that doesn't run Froyo. :(

After trying ALL the Froyo roms out there, including the FRG01B release, none of them run on my Droid without causing it to become unresponsive and freeze up. Even if I do manage to get the rom running, all it takes is a power cycle for the phone to start acting up again.

I have unrooted and gone back to bone stock 2.1 to wait for the official OTA from Verizon. When it comes, I fully expect it to make my Droid unusable. ;) Then I will take it to Verizon and get a new/refurbished Droid that will run Froyo (I will root that sucker first though). :D

You didn't get the update.zip patch to ESE81 (2.1)?

So you're saying you are on ESE56?

Ahh very good. I kinda thought the same thing..
Guess after 2.2 I'll wait for the LTE phones.
Thank you kindly sir.

When the DX ringtone "Droid Invasion" starts playing on your D1 you know your FroYo is ready to eat, that's Androids version of a microwave...*PING*

I thought about rooting a long time ago, instead of waiting for FroYo, but I decided that good things come to those who wait. Boy, was I unhappy when I read that BS by Verizon about the Droid 1 not being capable of making Wi-Fi hotspots. Lucky that 1-click root thing came out. Now all I have to do is wait for the even sweeter 2.2 ROMs to be released...
