I just got the new HTC manufactured home dock.

Either I'm stupid or unaware.

When you put a phone on a dock, doesn't it normally go into a landscape position?

It does with the car dock, but I don't know if it's as simple as a setting.

It's a known issue, suppose to be fixed in the OTA update that starts tonight. Hope it works for you!

Will the phone automatically update, or do I have manually update it tomorrow?

It will eventually prompt you to update, but you should be able to update it now if you go to menu>settings>software update> check for new.
