Droid Razr problem not entirely sure whats wrong.

Ok when i went to bed last night my Droid Razr was fine i set it on the night stand by my glasses and i suppose it could've ran out of battery overnight. When i got up this morning i woke up to see that it was unresponsive to the wake up button on the side. So figuring it ran out of battery i plugged it in and proceeded to get ready. As i was putting my pistol in its holster i noticed something extremely weird. The entire screen was blue knowing this is not like any normal start up i have done before i forced a reboot using the power button and the vol button. I turned it back on and the normal Motorola red circle showed up and then the screen went black and was unresponsive for the most part after that.

I'm not sure what could've went wrong overnight. I don't download anything from the marketplace, the only thing i download is the updates that Verizon sends me every now and then and i only download those because they get annoying with the reminders. If i use the internet i only use it to look up information from sites like wiki. Anyone know what could be wrong and how i can fix it?

If it ran the battery completely out which it's not advised it could have caused a problem. Maybe the battery is in deep discharge. I'm sure Foxkat, or one of the other battery gurus will help you. I'd try, but I'm not an expert like some others. Sit tight, I'm sure they will be here soon.

Try plugging it into the wall directly using the supplied cable and charger. Leave it alone for 3-4 hours then try the Power and Vol Down to force a reboot.

FoxKat is "The Man" when it comes to batteries so he may have more to add, but until then, that's what I'd do. "It won't hurt" as my Grandma used to say.

Thanks guys, i kept force rebooting it and eventually it worked. But now if i have to restart it or something i have to force restart it 5 or 6 times before the screen will actually work and respond. Sad this is i still have over a year left on this phone.

Wow that's terrible.... FoxKat is the man on this.. but I'm going out on a limb here and I'm going to suggest that you clear the cache on the device.. see what happens...

You should also power it off and charge it to 100%... this helps a lot on many cases. If it does help, then you should consider training your battery meter...

If it doesn't help, you're probably looking at a factory data reset...
Let FoxKat weigh in before you decide to do this...

By the way, welcome to the droid forums... by your description of your prep to go out the door... you're in law enforcement perhaps??

Hkuser, the phone is still under warranty. You may need a replacement. Does the phone reach a full charge? Are you saying that in order to restart the phone, you always have to do the power and volume down button to force the restart? Are you no longer able to power down the phone with the power button?

It sounds like a hardware problem but possibly not. It is possible it could be a software problem which a factory data reset might fix. It may be worth a try before getting a replacement.

I'm sure it is under warranty however im not a very technologically smart person i know a little about this and that. However im reluctant to replace it unless i have no other options. Reasons being, um to keep it PG i have photos of my wife on the phone that are adult in nature and im concerned even if i transfer them to my computer and then delete them that they will still be on the phone. Much like how on a computer even if you delete something it is not really gone. So due to this im reluctant to replace it.

Onto powering down and turn it on, the phone actually once it starts to work normally i can power down standard. But its the power up that is a pain in the rear. It will freeze up at the point that it gets the home screen where i slide to unlock. From there my only option is to force shutdown and reboot and it takes several tries but eventually will boot up properly and work right. However it is irritating to have the concern that if i shut off my phone or restart it that maybe it wont turn back on properly. Tonight actually i had to restart my phone and it had that bright blue screen and idk whats wrong with it. I don't download anything off the marketplace all i download is the mandatory updates from Verizon. Any thoughts???

On another question what is this motocast crap that i'd have to install to my computer to get music files off of my computer and onto my phone?

Thanks

Your best option and it may fix all your problems is to do a factory data reset.

With phone powered up, plug into USB on your PC. If you already have the Motorola drivers on your PC, then you will be get a prompt with an option to view files. If you have a removable SD card in your phone, you should see two moto folders (one is the internal SD card that can't be removed, the other is the removable SD card. Either you can copy the contents of your internal card on your PC or you can find the folders that have your pics (DCIM folder and Pictures folder) and copy only those folders to your PC. Depending on how much, it may take up to an hour to save your SD card to your pc. Your pics on the removable card you can do at another time (because they are not stored on the phone, so no risk if you have to send your phone back).

There may be other things you want to do before doing an fdr. See this thread for ideas when backing up and restoring before doing an fdr see: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/rescue-squad-help/219101-getting-most-success-upgrading-ics-gb.html

Do the factory data reset. See if that fixes your problems. If not then you may have to get a replacement. Keep us posted.

Try removing sim card to see if it will reboot correctly. If it does then your sim card has a file that is not compatible with the operating system of the phone.
