Droid Price Cuts

The phone has been out for a little over a month. I mean come on...

Amen. It's not as if Dell paid $100 for the phone and is selling it for $120. They are paying over $400 for it, then selling it with a qualifying rate plan where Verizon pays hundreds in commissions. That means new accounts, or primary line on an eligible upgrade with rate plans over $59.99. If you don't qualify, they don't ship the phone. Call that a scam if you want, but it seems pretty straightforward to me.

Ok. I'm new to this so be nice. I am not eligible for an upgrade phone until June of 2010. I tried to go into Best Buy yesterday with the Dell ad for $119 and they told me that they can't match it because Verizon told them the above. I then called Verizon and they won't give it to me for less than $299 and the $100 rebate. Can anyone tell me how I can get the Motorola Droid for less than this?
Thanks.

at some point best buy had it for $149 and sears had it for something like that too. but if you aren't eligible for an upgrade, you won't get a discount from verizon. in fact, i'm surprised they offered it to you at $199 after rebate. that's what i got mine for (+50 upgrade rebate) and i was at my two-year point

Don't worry about the 'better' price.

Not worried about the price drops, I got mine, It works like a charm, the price drop is not worth my time and trouble..

I agree. You can wait FOREVER to get the best price, and you never get it (whatever "it" is) because you're sure NEXT WEEK will be a better price than this week. It never happens. I too have mine. I shelled out extra bucks because I couldn't wait until my contract was up. I'm glad I did it, I'm glad I have the phone, and I LOVE IT.:icon_gd:

this is my first post, but I got a droid eris last night at bestbuy... free.. they had a promotion going that if you buy $50 in accessories, the phone is free.. and free activation... since I was due for a upgrade, I only picked a few BS accessories to hit 50 bux, and got the phone... so far I love it.

If you say so. Wirefly had it free with free shipping, no sales tax, free activation, and $50 Bing cashback with no obligation to buy anything else.

Droid $99

I went into the VZW store yesterday and got myself a Droid for $99 ($199 w/$100 mail in rebate). This thing is LIGHT YEARS beyond my Palm 700W :D. My wife and I were considering getting a land line for my kids but decided it would be cheaper to just add another line to the account and get her a free Eris. The VZW staff were great and will absolutely have out return business.

Only complaint is that I have to pull off my case to use the multimedia dock :(. I'm gonna give it a few days to see if it's worth the hassle. The case oversight for multimedia/car docks is really irritating as I would've gladly picked up both. The phone itself is even better than I had hoped, and I had very high hopes :D.

An interesting thing that happened when I got the phone was the VZW sales rep telling me about PDAnet and its tethering abilities. He said to DL and enjoy before Verizon cripples it.

Motorola Droid $99+tax (after $50 BCB)+free shipping/activation w/ new 2yr VZW contract - SlickDeals.net Forums

That is the deal I did. $69.99 after bing cash back for the motorola droid. I think that is about the best you can do, but this was a new phone line, not an upgrade.

I think this deal is back on, $119 for a new line, $50 bing cash back, $69 for a moto droid. Although yes I have to wait till Feb. to get my $50 back, the joy of having it my hands tomorrow is going to make me forget about the wait. :reddroid:

I was seriously looking into Dell (always shop there) and Wirefly (never did shop there) because of the better discounts offered (as compared to local stores/VZW). I didn't like the fact that there were "rules" to follow for the first 6 months. Breaking the rules results in paying around $300 to Dell or Wirefly. My local Bestbuy wouldn't even look at the Wirefly ad, nor talk about Dell.com.

Ended up buying from a local VZW store to support the local store and salesperson. Also, I dont have to worry about paying a fee if I change my plan.

You could have gotten it free at Verizon too if you were due for an upgrade. The upgrade credit is $100 and the rebate is $100.

But I'm glad you got a phone you love, and you don't have to wait for the rebate!
