Do you pay for new phone up front, or is it thrown on a monthly bill?

I haven't bought a new phone from Verizon since the OG Droid was released, and I can't remember how it works.

My OG is on life-support and slipping away fast. I'm assuming the Nexus will be released mid-November time frame. Wifey says that I have to wait until Dec 1st payday to get it.....but don't you get the choice of just throwing the cost of the phone on the next month's bill anyway? I thought that's how it worked. That would work perfect for me because I could get it when it is released and not have to pay until Dec 1st.

Is it different depending on if you pre-order, order from website on release day, or buy it at the store?

If you are a current customer, they can bill you. If not, they typically want it upfront.

Wait if you're a current customer and ready for an upgrade you can request to have the price of the phone put on your bill? WTF? When was this an option?

I might sell my iphone 4 on ebay afterall instead of trading it into the store.

This has always been an option.

Man, I'd sell the phone outright. You should get around $300 for it.

I've always wondered about this. That will be very sweet indeed as I don't have to wait for the upgrade. Sucks at having to look at spending $250 on a new phone with Christmas coming up.

We were new to VZW a few months back and they let us bill both our X2's to the account so this seems to be a discretionary move by the employee.

Personally I've always put it on my bill- whether purchased in the store or online- so I'm no expert. But I think part of it has to do with your credit history. If it's good, they'll let you throw it on your next bill. If it's not so good, they may make you pay up front. Don't quote me on that.

You can have it billed to you if you either go to the store, or order over the phone. However you can't have it billed if you order it online. You can have all accessories billed to you also. Different people have different limits on their account though. Remember when you first signed up for your service? They ran a credit check on you. That will determine how much you could bill. I've been with verizon for 9 years and had my service shut off twice, both times related to billing new stuff to my account. But I still do it every time I get something. Back in the day I would bill my new phone say $200. Then pay an extra $50 per month on top of my regular bill for the next 4 months. But about 3 years ago when I tried it the balance hit 30 days past due shut off. You now have to pay the full balance with your next bill. Ok who cares but let me know you changed it. Next time was just last week, bought my wife a Xoom, and daughter a Galaxy 7". That was fine but I have a $1,000 charge limit when my bill was posted another $300 something, balance went over $1,200. Shut off. And that was the day after I got the your bill is ready to be viewed email. Wasn't due for about 3 weeks. Had to call them and pay some of it to bring it under $1,000

You can bill to account if you have not had a past due balance in the last 6 months.
