best thing to do for a someone on 2.3.15?

currently on rubix 1.0 for 2.3.15 and ive been having this problem where sometimes it just gets really hot and eats up the battery in like an hour. can someone please point me in the direction of a very stable and battery oriented rom? it doesn't need to be under-clocked, but i dont want one that is over-clocked (unless of course its easy to turn that off).

personally, i would flash to stock, update to 2.2.1, and re-flash to a custom rom. apex is pretty battery friendly (and if you dont wanna flash to stock, i think a version exists for 2.3.15). apex also offers underclocking if you so choose. also grab juice defender from the market, pretty helpful.
