Apex GB Q&A

Running pretty good for me

How do we get in on beta testing the, er, Alpha? Would love to help test it and report any issues.

Follow fab on twitter... @bigxie . Keeping links off droidforums for now to limit the amount of tech support issues having the masses on an alpha build would bring. Friend him on twitter and find the links in his tweets but remember alpha's may have bugs, not a finished product, and feedback is essential. As with anything root, use at your own risk and be familiar with recovery process just in case.

Alpha 2 is running great for me. I notice something most probably won't, It seems like a bug, but I actually prefer it.

If you enable a pin lock (I have to due to corporate email), you lose the motorola slide unlocker. Basically, every time you turn on the phone if you have a pin enable and the timeout has not been reached, you get no lock at all.

I like using widgetlocker, so it's not an issue, and actually a nice feature. Since moto lock is kinda weird, widgetlocker could never supress the slide lock anyway, and a workaround was to set it to auto slide for you. Which works, but is kind of clunky. Now I don't have that problem.

So I call this an unintended feature :)

Anyone compared this to liberty gb

Sent from my DROIDX using DroidForums

I'm on liberty gb now. I was waiting on Fab to add some sysctl tweaks before I tried the Apex alpha and he has done that last night so I'm going to load it up now. I will give a comparison tonight after work.

Not a problem... I'm very familiar with beta's. I'm looking for a change because my phone was working great on the original GB leak, but on the newest leak, I get random reboots, and worse battery life. I figured if I'm going to do the work to either reinstall the latest GB leak, I might as well test out Fab's.

Just flashed Alpha 2. Looks like he added Imoseyon tweaks.

Only had Alpha 1 for a few hours yesterday but battery life seemed good. I have always had bad battery life with Liberty, for my X, Apex is doing better.

Just follow Fab's instructions and you should be good to go.

having problems with contacts, the fix didn't fix it in Alpha 2.

I did wipe data/factory reset when installing Alpha 2. That fixed my contacts issue. Just wiping cache did not.

I'll be running this all day with 8+ hours of pm3 playing, 20-30 texts and a little web surfing. I'll post some bat stats tomorrow morn.

So far so good. I do miss the liberty toolbox options but once fab gets his toolbox going they will be neck and neck.

I didn't realize the leak version of the launcher was a "blur" one and not part of GingerBread itself. I actually kind of liked it. Looks like it's back to Launcher Pro.

Anyone else like the launcher in the leak X GB?

Yeah, I really liked it, with the groupings you could do and running apps. I think it's pretty well on par with adw and/or launcherpro. If they would only implement scrolling widgets...

You can add it back in by yourself. If you still have the zip for the deodexed .588, then just extract BlurHome.apk and place it in the /system/app/ folder on your phone. Just make sure that you have its permissions set correctly (all can read, user can write)

Thanks for the info, I may have to try that (although I still love launcher pro).

Unfortunately, it appears the calendar isn't working and I use that all the time so it looks like I'm going to have to refert... Although speed and everything else seemed to be working great.

Run it hard yesterday. 8 hr of music, moderate web and app installing, a little words with friends and a few random reboots. I was underclocked and stock battery. Battery died right at 8 hr's.

Wiped battery stats and re calibrated. I will do the same today and see if I get better results.
