Anyone seeing the .604 OTA update yet?

edit: oh an make sure you let your battery drain completely if you continue to have unusual power behavior. You need to show your battery where the bottom is so it understands correctly where it is now. You should do this soon if you haven't done in already (in the next day or two) and then once a month thereafter. Not too often though, as that will hasten your battery's demise.

THIS IS NOT TRUE OF LITHIUM CELL PHONE BATTERIES.

Nickel-based batteries (either NiCd or NiMH) DO NOT generally suffer from a misunderstood phenomenon known as the "memory effect." As described in Wikipedia and many expert sources,[2] the term "memory effect" has been widely mythologized to describe any and all deterioration of NiCd (and other battery chemistries), in many cases misleading consumers into further shortening the lives of the batteries through over-discharging to "recondition" them.

Lithium ion batteries can be preserved by careful charging and avoiding storing them at full charge. They do not require "reconditioning."

Having problems since the OTA last night:

-Fancy Widget: Time is not updating
-Battery Left: Bar/% not updating
-Silent Toggle Widget: Changes the 3 volume settings, but icon no longer changes for each button push
-AudioManager: Widget does not update display when changing problems

These are just a few of the ones I've seen so far... anyone else having widget update problems?

Also - I am running ADW.Launcher

Edit: Everything seems to work properly when using stock home or LP. Looks like its a ADW problem

He wasn't talking with reference to the battery's health. He meant that the phone needs to learn at exactly what point the battery is out of juice, i.e., it may think it has only 10% left.. but in reality the battery puts out solid juice for another 2 hours sitting at 10%. That kind of thing.

I've just noticed after installing the update that if I press the home button, it just goes home and if I press it again, it stays on the home screen. With the original stock software, when I would press the home button multiple times, the phone would switch between my home screen and the full list of apps on the phone.

Did anyone else notice this?

Just bit the bullet and updated. This feature is definitely gone and I see no way of getting it back right now. I'd even settle for the double tap doing it, but it's not an option there.

Sigh...

Johndubya - calibration, the process I referred to, is not the same as memory or conditioning. Some of the answers at wikilink seem to be completely wrong based on my own research at Motorola.com, Apple.com and batteryuniversity.com over the last few days. Let me provide you with some links that you can go check out yourself, and then we can at least have the same information when we're discussing it.

How to prolong lithium-based batteries

Here's an excerpt. I'll drop the Motorola link if I can find it again.

Simple Guidelines

Avoid frequent full discharges because this puts additional strain on the battery. Several partial discharges with frequent recharges are better for lithium-ion than one deep one. Recharging a partially charged lithium-ion does not cause harm because there is no memory. (In this respect, lithium-ion differs from nickel-based batteries.) Short battery life in a laptop is mainly cause by heat rather than charge / discharge patterns.

Batteries with fuel gauge (laptops) should be calibrated by applying a deliberate full discharge once every 30 charges. Running the pack down in the equipment does this. If ignored, the fuel gauge will become increasingly less accurate and in some cases cut off the device prematurely.

Keep the lithium-ion battery cool. Avoid a hot car. For prolonged storage, keep the battery at a 40% charge level.

Consider removing the battery from a laptop when running on fixed power. (Some laptop manufacturers are concerned about dust and moisture accumulating inside the battery casing.)

Avoid purchasing spare lithium-ion batteries for later use. Observe manufacturing dates. Do not buy old stock, even if sold at clearance prices.

If you have a spare lithium-ion battery, use one to the fullest and keep the other cool by placing it in the refrigerator. Do not freeze the battery. For best results, store the battery at 40% state-of-charge.

Don't have time to go read through all 20 pages of this ( gotta leave for work ). But anyways, my phone never prompted me to install an update, but i just manually checked for updates and i see its there. But now I read there's issues with this update?? Constant Re-boot???

So my question...

To update or not to update yet..

Updated mine last night. Didn't take long to boot up. I've been using it all morning and havent had an issues. i like the new my verizon app. phone seems a little faster

so how long is it taking to load ? mine seems to be hung up maybe - not sure what it is doing but have the red eye on the screen

The update download (on wi-fi) only took a couple of minutes. The install maybe took 5 or so minutes, and the initial reboot of the phone took a few minutes. Subsequent reboot was very quick (perhaps quicker than it rebooted before the update). I have not had any problems since doing the update. My phone is pretty vanilla though.....just apps installed from the Market....no boot programs or anything like that. The best feature I saw was that I was able to download the "My Verizon" app update and the app actually WORKED.

You can try to resist the update, but you'll be assimilated quickly anyway, unless you turn off your phone and leave it off.

since update, my battery life seems to have improved today. At least the battery indicator is showing that I have more juice left then I normally do.
Also anecdotally after using the phone regularly the past few days, it seems to be draining less today..

I checked for updates and downloaded .604. No notification for me.

Battery went from 77% and 100% after reboot.

This phone is amazing and I can't find anything to complain about!

They Pulled an Iphone update on mine as well (changed the actual 0% signal to show 3 Bars).

My Battery was at 80% prior, now it's at 100%.
