Worst mistake Harbaugh made was getting rid of Alex Smith. Yeah Kap can run a mile on opposing defenses but every now and then he needs to throw and that's when he's no longer a nemesis to a defense but becomes their best weapon. Defenses can easily defend runners that that's all they can do now and RG3 is another example of how they've peaked because they are 1 dimensional. Alex isn't flashy and exciting but he's usually consistent and a winner.
Eddie Debartelow and company had a devil of a time keeping Bill Walsh on somewhat of a leash, eventually losing to his HUGE ego but Eddie knew what was best for business: winning.
Like him or not, the team that Harbaugh took to the promised land was the team that Mike Singletary built more than the foundation of. In today's league anyone with a tough as nails approach to coaching won't last long. The players are too thin skinned to handle it. Lombardi,Landry, Ditka, etc wouldn't last 2 seasons in this nfl.
Anyway,I agree with the writer, be careful what you wish for.
