When I'm on a call and put the phone up to my ear it locks like it should, but when I pull it away from my face to end the call it won't unlock like it should I have to either hit the home button or the lock/unlock button started doing this recently any ideas why? Thanks running kit Kat 4.4.2

Have you tried resetting your security settings?

Got to Settings then Security. Check what they are and cancel all of them. Reboot go back and set it the way you want them.

Are you talking about the lock screen, or the black screen that appears when your ear is pressed up against the phone (to talk) and disappears when you move the phone away from your face? If the latter, your proximity sensor may just have dust obscuring its view and you may be able to improve/restore function by using compressed air (can) to blow out the dust in your ear speaker holes (right next to the proximity sensor).
