You still need PRL push

It is still needed, I was found this post because I was searching for how to do the PRL update. I was on version 5286. Did the *228, chose option 2 for updating roaming capabilities and now I'm on PRL 53100.

I believe you are referring to the *228 call. This is a call that reaches out to the network and requests the device MIN, MDN, and an updated PRL. This doesn't work on LTE devices as those are managed differently. If you are using a 3G device you can still do that without issue. Best case scenario it improves your coverage. PRL's are pushed pretty regularly to devices anyhow, so this is essentially un-needed these days.

No, it's not needed on LTE devices, and doing it can actually damage your SIM card. The PRL will update on its own.

I have never seen it damage the device, just fail the over the air update
