verizon mobile app

Can someone tell me exactly what the verizon mobile app is for? I have it on my phone and wanted to check it out but it says "your mobile number could not be validated, please try later" and has said that for over a week. I don't know what this app does....is it worth fixing? Any suggestions how to fix it?

It tells me that on first try but if I back out and then open it again it works.
I pay my bill and check my usage with it to make sure my girlfriend isn't going over our 1400 minutes. You can do many more things I believe.

Let it close then open it again in about 10secs. For some reason its waiting for a request or something and not going through but the second time is fine.
