My son has a Verizon Droid 2 and he's on his way to Japan. Of coarse he's hoping to use his own phone? Can he buy a Japan sim card and use his Droid? Does he need to unlock it? Does he need a service plan? We don't know anything about this kinda of stuff. Please advice with all details and instructions if possible. Thank you so much for your help.

If its a d2g and he got the sim unlock code from vzw before the yes.

I'm not entirely sure what all is needed, that's just what I've gathered from reading around here.

if he has a Droid 2 then no. It doesn't have a sim card slot and is only cdma. If he has a Droid 2 global then its possible but I think it needs to be unlocked.

Thanks for all of your replies. Okay, so I guess I should find out if his Droid is global? If it has a sim card slot, then it is global, right? He may know this, but just in case? Where is the slot located? Thanks again.

Yes.... the slot is under the battery cover right next to the sd slot.
