check out amazons used books. i got a few over the summer for like 2-3 bucks

Seriously, don't bother. Save yourself some money and invest a little bit of time learning about the system. If you want, feel free to shoot me a PM or something, and I will do my best to guide you along the way. I certainly don't know as much as some people, but I can probably answer your first questions

I hate .exe files!!!!! =[

they're very important sometimes and linux/mac based OS's fail.

I don't mind Ubuntu though, I rather my windows but my windows got a huge virus and LUCKILY I had Ubuntu installed so I use that, like a whole different computer so I actually recommend this for anyone just incase your original crashes like mine did...
